i can not replicate that atm and have not made a configuration change to the forum for a long time.

I would suggest its your browser.

1) clear out your cookies
2) delete internet temp files (Documents and settings -> user -> temporary internet files and any other temp directory)
3) reboot.

This will reset your session which is stored in the database.

There's another thing that would explain the two things; some tool has been pissing around on the server again and has changed the clock.

If the clock was put back, or its loosing time, that would explain why marking as read didn't mark as read (it does it based on time) and would also explain why the post appeared before another (post time comes from PHP time(), which gets it from the system time).

Unfortunately, I can't fix that so will escalate it to our host. Sounds incredibly like the time has been changed. Clear out your session and log out then back in again.

There was a short outage on eduardo due to human error (wrong circuit breaker flipped). We apologize for that.

Also, since earlier today, the mysql problems should be fully resolved. Please report any issues still remaining.

Just checked my inbox and found that mail from yesterday. I'm guessing this was the problem and it reset the box time.

So, the time will have gone back but post time is stored in the database.
That explains why your post times were out of order.

it also explains why the session info was out, it was because the time on the box was before the time of your session. When the times "catch up" then they'll mark as normal, logging out and deleting your temporary internet files will start a new session with the 'correct' time.

A very annoying error, but now i've heard they turned the box off, makes sense that i can't reproduce it.

The frontpage site stores a searchtime to prevent floods and waits for 30 seconds; unless your a mod that is :) Obviously the time will have been sometime in the past preventing your from searching again (it checks if its greater than time+30 from your session). I'm hoping the present has caught up with the past and you can search again,

I've complained to our host and asked them to double check the system clock.

I'm guessing by the sounds of the message there will have been cannot connect to database messages; hopefully they will leave the box alone so we can get a big time of stability.

is badbugs on ntl too?

As far as i can see the mail is being sent. If he's on ntl you might want to see if they are censoring your mail. If you have webmail, and are checking it via pop you might want to see if its in your webmail spam folder. Gmail do this, any spam you get won't be retreived by pop.

I just googled ntl and blocking mail:
http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ntl+bl ... firefox-a=

http://www.chetnet.co.uk/articles/index ... id=128&c=4

scroll right to the bottom:
http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/sendEmail.php

http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/emails/ntlemail.html

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/80/23 ... email.html

I fear your isp is vetting/censoring your mail :o

Please can you complain to your isp?

I've mailed the postmaster so we'll see what happens.

I received the pm notification to the yahoo addy so it's defo NTL's spamfilter doing the blocking.

btw, the only instance you should get a pm without a mail (barring if you've opted out of receiving mails which is configurable within your profile) is if you get a pm from the forum bot.... that pm is informational only so i didn't bother making it spam you.

saying that, I hate ISP based emails coz when you switch ISP it fucks you up & thus I use a hotmail account :shadey:

tis why i buy domains.

However, as shit as isp mails can be, nothing is as shitty as hotmail. Leave it for a month and they delete it  Hotmail has to the most widely used free email service and the single worst free email service

Traditionally i used yahoo, until gmail came along. Yahoo have revamped their mail system and its actually very well made. Gmail has pop though (unless yahoo have reintroduced this?).

I would highly recommend:
Gmail
Yahoo

I would highly discourage:
hotmail
ntl now

I think the only reason hotmail exists is general lack of awareness for the features other service have, and that microsoft do not advertise the fact that you don't actually need a hotmail address to use msn; you can just sign up at http://www.passport.com with any mail ;)

Anyway, i'm pretty confident the mail server is functioning as it should be and this is a spam issue. Let me know what ntl say because if its true, i will ban @ntl* mail signups so you have to use another service. I was considering doing the same for hotmail, it causes no end of problems... people let their account expire and microsoft delete / block any new incoming mails when they do this so all the mails bounce (activations, notifications, etc.)

Just tried to search for Twilight Zone on 'Search Site' and it didn't return the series topic at scifi forum.

Is that a feature? :wacky:
