Too mainstream, but feel free to pose the question or challenge the nature of that non-horror section... we are working on the old assumption that the non-blockbuster rule is okay for everyone :)

What does everyone think? What should be the guidelines for non-horror around here? :)

Non-Horror = no scary gory things. Sci-fi should be posted on scifi.dead-donkey. The movie should be rare and interesting. Mainstream stuff can easily be found or bought. To sum it up. Non-Horror:

1. No scary, gory things
2. No Sci-fi
3. Hard to find (underdog) movie
4. Interesting story

I'm not sure about the no scifi rule myself, since they are seperate sites and i know people from there don't visit here and people from here don't visit there we should just encourage posting on both sites.

We do have the option of subforums too, if you want some kind of segregation of content we can now acheive that.

Giallo has slipped into non horror although my personal opinion would be its horror.

I agree that scifi should also be posted in non horror.

I'm wondering if we should have a blockbuster subsection so as to increase the activity on here. Only quality AFR DVD/HD/BR Rips would be posted, not shitty 1cd or 2cd rips so as to reduce the amount of crap that could potentially be posted in there.

We've been very quiet since the server crashed & it might help a little.... maybe? :watchingyou:

Eeehm, if you are discussing the non-horror section, has everyone the same idea about what is horror? I mean, for example, "Ilsa She-Wolf of the SS" can be posted in non-horror but in horror as well. To me, horror is any movie which is meant to scare people and contains unrealistic stuff (zombies, monsters, ghosts, etc). In this light, a movie like Dahmer might not be horror, because he was real. I can imagine people see it as horror anyway, so... varying opinions at the start of a discussion must be eliminated, otherwise you can get misunderstandings which cause great probs. Example: in 1945, Churchill and Stalin agreed on making Europe democratic. Only Stalin understood a very different thing when he said that Eastern Europe would become democratic...

I also consider horror everyting with unrealistic scary stuff, plus some other movies in which people are bloodily murdered/mutilated for no particular reason (like experiments or so). :voodoo:

Yeah, but what should or shouln't be allowed in non-horror?

What's with classics for instance? I'm thinking movies along the lines of Godfather. I think it's pretty safe to assume we have an audience for that kind of thing here. But should the rips be posted or would the majority rather keep HHAH "clean" (or rather dirty) and click those links elsewhere?

Well, I think The Godfather is an excellent example: if you'd like to have a rip of that one can just use eMule search and several rips pop up. I think when a movie is that easily available, we shouldn't have it here.

Just like people on SBiG started to post good movies, we shouldn't be starting to post (too much) non-horror. I think we should keep it to underground movies, like Lucker from Belgium, or movies closely related to horror, such as Gestapos Last Orgy. Also, I think movies which fit into one of our collections, but aren't really horor (read: UEC), should be going into our non-horror section.

I agree.

Yeah me too.

I think some of the rare-er Crime/thrillers/Action/SciFi/Drama should go there too. Not the Godfather but maybe similiar genre-type movies should be allowed, although there have many decent films which aren't horror and aren't obscure that would interest members here, even if you can grab them elsewhere, people may not know they would dig it unless Spud or Rogue or whoever presents it. Also stuff like Se7en or Aliens, which is not horror or obscure, can go there, its not horror its more thriller and action/scifi respectively. I think REAL giallo's can go into horror, like early Dario Argento or Mario Bava, and the obscure Italian crappers every one loves can go in Non-horror. Sometimes its hard to define Horror definitively (redundant?) but I'd look for a certain 'tone'.

Aliens is the second movie in a horror franchise, its a monster movie. I wouldn't even argue that Alien4 or those shitty AvP movies weren't "horror" in so far that they are big monster movies. :)

So does the Godzilla franchise count as horror then?
Regardless, maybe Aliens was a bad example for action/scifi, so insert Independence Day instead. Or Terminator 2.

Personally, I'd put godzilla in both scifi & horror.

The horror section also has fantasy like lord of the rings in it so it would fit the theme.

Godzilla is a monster movie, its part of the wave of scifi/horror/bmovies from the 50s/60s. I'd say its a horror/scifi, yes.

ID4 was scarey, mainly because it was shit

I'm not sure what people want, personally i'm not sure why the godfather, etc. would need posting.

Maybe better to get the blog thing up and running and people can post them on their own personal release blogs.
