The link you posted works for me. Have you tried removing the "lowres=true" option from the URL?

the problem is the lowres, its not on the search string so you hit the search page, then immediately after it then hits the lowres mode; mean essentially you perform to searches in quick succession. The solution would be to cache and not limit searches if you get a hit on the cache; or to fix the lowres hack to be a proper persistant solution so it does do a hit then redirect.

if you hit the url directly it only makes a single request therefore it lets the search go through unrestricted.

Logging in just halves the time you have to wait :)

lowres mode is only active on devices with shitty ancient resolutions that are pretty much defunct (less than 1024x768, 1280x1024 is the norm these days). So for example on my laptop which is 800x600 its active. It was a better option to drop the right navigation than disallow users or allow a horizontal scroll.

Sounds like cache is the way to go. Would probably make searchers a lot happier.

Hmmm, i'm using 1024x768, anything less and i'd have to get some glasses, so why is it happening to me?

BTW, have you moved to Spain spud?

1024 is too small to fit a normal resolution image (~500px) and a side bar on the left and right.
1024 is a tiny resolution, I'm using it now because I'm on a tiny, laptop; its a bit of a pain designing for it particularly if you have a lot of content. Its a bit of a pain to use too if i'm honest, I end up with a mess of a title bar and its annoying not having space to work with.

We could lose the side bar on the right, but the problem then is the huge amount of padding you get on the top bar between content, and a 'stretched' center block. That and the left hand nav doubles to squeese the content on.

That said, I could have a play... the only issue is my resolution on the laptop is 1024x768 (its an ultraportable device).

Each 4:3 resolution makes the screen's content heavily stretched on my notebook.

i don't understand what you mean, streched? each? There's loads of 4:3 resolutions, 1024x768 is 4:3 and nothing is stretched. 1600x1200 is 4:3 and all you'll get is padding in the header, and a block on the right side instead of the left. None of the content reformats in anyway, the font sizes are the same, no extra content is added, images remain exactly the same size.

For example:
http://www.dead-donkey.com/modules/shar ... owres=true
and
http://www.dead-donkey.com/modules/shar ... ies&id=943

I don't really understand what you are talking about.

I think the means that his notebook display is somewhat like 16:9 and using a 4:3 resolution looks ugly?

thing is, i used a widescreen display when making it and it looks just the same 4:3, just a bit of padding

Relax spud, it has nothing to do with how the site is designed. It's rather the resolution that gives me an ugly image of the screen's content.
Imagine a 16:10 display. Now select 1024x768 (which is 4:3) as resolution. You can easily see that 16 is 4 times 4. But 10 is not 4 times 3.
Therefore the image is horizontally over-stretched, because the screen is only able to perform a vertical scaling of 10/3 which is less than 16/4.
Hope you get it, if not for-get it.
