Hello,

For those of you who have experienced problems with the site search, can you please post the url that appears when you get the message? Can you also tell me where you were searching from, ie. search.php, the sidebar, etc.

Thank you

if you do, please remember to grab the url in the address bar as it will help me track it down... i have a sneaky suspicion it will be something like only people in low res mode will get it, or only people coming from the sidebar or something like that.

I just came across another strange thing when searching using the "Search" link at the top.

I entered "Chronosaur" in the "Search for keywords:" field. I wanted to see if there were answers to my previous post, which I knew contained that word.
I selected "Search for any terms" from the radio buttons below and clicked "Search".

RESULT:
You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 3 characters and must not contain more than 14 characters excluding wildcards.

Query string:
search.php?keywords=Chronosaur&terms=any&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search

PS: I received this error after fiddling around with the Search because I forgot the asterisk as a wildcard symbol.

i was talking about the site search since the forum search is vanilla phpbb3 and gets shit loads of testing

Anyway, that's because phpbb is keyword based your post was:
Chronosaurus ->
rather then:
chronosaur

viewtopic.php?t=18472

What you'd need to do is:
search.php?keywords=Chronosaur*&terms=any&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search

Not been able to get your length is greater than 14 etc., unless you enter more than 14, or you don't enter anything.

I know. That is exactly what I described above. :googley:
What I don't understand is the message I received. Have you tried clicking the link I provided? What is vanilla phpbb3 btw.?

If i click the link its fine, i get two hits for the phrase you are searching for which is correct.

@vanilla xyz = plain, usual ordinary, unmodified, etc. I mean phpbb provides the search and i've not modified it in anyway.

Exactly the same sense, the default, vanilla flavour :)

@results, before you would have got "no results available", once you posted the first time it will have then returned the post saying you didn't get any results. That is what i got. now you'll be getting the reply that says you didn't get a response, then my response that said you didn't get a response.

I would have expected you to get a result like:
search.php?keywords=sdasdasda&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search

though

Sorry spud, but I am afraid I don't understand what you are trying to explain to me. :(

I'm saying i don't know how you got:
You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 3 characters and must not contain more than 14 characters excluding wildcards.

it should and does say when i try a similar non-indexed term
no results available

when i try it:
search.php?keywords=sdasdasda&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search

i think its the lowres=true, i noticed this a while back.

Basically you hit the site, then it redirects to lowres=true so it counts as two searches. I need a couple of minutes free to sitdown and fix the lowres mode so it doesn't impact timings.
