More and more spam-bots are appearing. What could we do to avoid them? Seems like the CAPTCHAs are not enough.

Since the server move a very large amount of mail sent from the forum software has been rejected:
This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.
A message that you sent has not yet been delivered to one or more of its
recipients after more than 72 hours on the queue on serverde.

The message identifier is: 1KfJdW-0002Dm-G4
The subject of the message is: =?UTF-8?B?VG9waWMgcmVwbHkgbm90aWZpY2F0aW9uIC0gIlRlZXRoIg==?=
The date of the message is: Mon, 15 Sep 2008 19:21:26 +0000

The address to which the message has not yet been delivered is:

host smtpin.ntlworld.com [81.103.221.10]: 421 Message rejected

No action is required on your part. Delivery attempts will continue for
some time, and this warning may be repeated at intervals if the message
remains undelivered. Eventually the mail delivery software will give up,
and when that happens, the message will be returned to you.

Hello,

Due to someone being hosted on another server in the Same IP range as us sending Spam Email's the IP range has been blacklisted, we are currently working to have this backlisting removed and will update you when and where.

Thanks,

Hello,

The DataCentre are currently working with Spamhaus to have the IP range removed, there is nothing we can do directly apart from wait for an update from the DC.

Thanks,

If that is true the "hotmail thing" is bad luck. Isn't there any new plug-in or add-on for phpBB3 that offers improved spam-bot prevention?
So currently you would like us to use the red exclamation mark Image at the bottom-right of the spam posts to report them?

i've added a question to registration to defeat the spambots.

This isn't a public mod, its one i wrote myself so hoping it won't be easy to generically beat. I may have to rename the box or something if spambots still get through

found the problem with the spam:
http://www.spamhaus.org/sbl/sbl.lasso?query=SBL67607

1) some arse was allowed to send spam from some ips on the range
2) some arse who submitted the spam report blocked our ip as part of it

I've launched a request to unblock it but am going to see if i can switch the mailserver to an alternative ip in the meantime.
