Just wondering if this forum could have the option to do a 'Quick Reply' as other forums have (http://www.filesoup.com) or a 'Quicksearch' (http://www.acfmovies.com). Not very important, would be nice, that's all.

I would vote; no for 'Quick Reply' (don't like it) and yes for 'Quicksearch' (seems usefull) :)

I'd like to hear why not? Can't see any negative sides myself, but I'm presuming there are...?

As the super-mega-omni-god I am I have already considered quickreply mod. However I discovered (this was a good while ago), that there were some downsides to it.

Firstly is the obvious, it encourages spam and stupid "Thx :)" posts. I would like to think people reply only when they would like to, or when they have something to say. That's how I work. Only post when I have a smartass comment, or am genuinely thankful for something. I hate it when someone goes through every release and only rights something like "thx :)" in everytopic. A quickreply makes it easier for someone to post this stuff and might be an incentive. The positive side is that it's very easy and increases usability criteria.

The second is that when looking at the mod, it was posted on many sites as containing a security vulnerability that allowed the execution of code. That, as you might know :), is a big no no

The first point is still a disadvantage, although it's an extreme cases, mostly people will just be able to reply easier, but still in consideration. The second I reckon will be fixed by now :)

I'll take a look at that when I have the time. Probably next weekend, as I have coursework that I should be doing as i type. Quick search I haven't researched so I'll take a look into that.

Comments Welcome :)

What I want.

Since this is a non direct linking site, replace all the http to hxxp on outward connections.

then we can post full links.

I don't mind direct links to sites that have no warez contents. Sites with anything illegal get you warned or banned even if you use hxxp.

If you don't want to use hxxp, don't bother... as long as your not linking to riaa or something

yeah course, I thought everyone knew

if it's the bit in the rules that's referring to warez and illegal software. I didn't specifically mind linking to riaa or something but I think it's best not to tempt fate and hxxp them.

Anything else I don't think there's any reason to hxxp em :)

Well i think there was some confusion at least from the majority!

I can't think of the threads now, but I know of ones where people link to, say The Register etc, and people post saying direct links are not allowed!

Anyway it's no biggy but makes it more easy to surf the board with direct links, and usually it is to news sites or joke/fun stuff!

@spud: what about your research in the science of quicksearchfunction? was it a success? i think this would be a very helpful option for someone that is trying to release something on this board. u wouldn?t have to browse the dvdrips-forum all day only to see that the dvd u?re planning to rip already got released. would be an great advancement to the board, great super-mega-omni-god.

how about a salad bar? or one of those fix your own sundae bars. that;s what this place could use, or at least some go-go dancers in cages.

Back to the topic: are there any enthusiasts of the auto-refresh function? Found it very useful on frequently visited forums, especially when you wait for a reply. I know we have mail notification, but it's not the same...
