I've just dropped over the necessary files and am tweaking the things, more info in the news articles in the header:
http://www.dead-donkey.com/modules/news/index.php?id=2
http://www.dead-donkey.com/modules/news/index.php?id=3

Also means there's a new header for the forums too. If you spot any bugs, give it 20mins, if its still there, let me know ;)

Maybe I'll actually start adding movies to the frontpage like I have promised over the last few years

Actually, the frontpage just extracts data from the forums, so now if you post something on the forums, a frontpage mod selects that thread, then adds a little preamble+details if they so wish, and then hit submit.

:)

Beyond simple now, no extra time / applications/ code /etc. needed, plus i've implemented/ported over the bbcode, smilies and ed2k link code to the frontpage too

Lets see how it goes though :)

oh and thx for the comment in support, appreciated :beerchug: As long as it doesn't fall down on its ass

Oh and the old movie database is all in there, with however many movies were in... i think it was 300 or so, probably more.

the top of this page looks a bit errrr....dunno but i don't like it as it is....maybe the news sections are too big? news and news cont?...personally i would prefer the navigation slightly larger and the news section slightly smaller...but i do like the idea of the new ed2k link section.....and oh my...some of the Nucleus rips i should have posted to the mainpage all those months ago

on the frontpage could you implement a search in the movies section as to who the ripper was? as i would guess many ppl on the frontpage would look for certain group rips and a search function to offer that could be good no? i know i sometimes miss STR rips that are posted sometimes so to be able to go to the frontpage and search for all there rips would be handy and yes i know they have a collection thread here in the forum but some HHAH's only use frontpage

:)

that will be extremely difficult given its not stored on a key field...

That means pattern matching and given the size of the database that can be extremely harsh on the server. PHPbb uses a words table and a very complicated system to search (and why it sometimes doesn't come out with results). It basically splits the posts down into words, then adds an entry for that word in a table in the database.

Your search query is split up and then it matches whole words against the entries in the table, the more words matches the higher the ranking.

This unfortunately means its not good for words that aren't seperated or stored in its own field.

I'd have to examine the databse but it might be possible to do a partial regular expression search for tags that match TDX, but its going to be a tad more complicated that I'd hope.

Frontpage search will be easy, just match the topic titles i think would work best.

So the answer is, I'll look into it, but it may not be practical.

There will be a collection section on the frontpage too, it will have room for bio, and then group movie entries. That's its planned implementation, but then again, there's already subgenre matches, ie zombies:

what res do you have? your not one of those friggin midget are you?

I've been testing the site designs on loads of setups, on my res it looks perfect, but the lower you get, the more freaky it looks. I've tried to make it so the left navigation is smaller, the problem is for midgets the lines spill over.

Trying to get the best compromise you see.

can you take a screenshot? Sorry to ask all this stuff, but i did test it on the lower settings and it didn't look that bad, although obviously the lower you go the crummy it gets as with all things

I can see the news lines go over onto 2 lines occasionally but i had to make the choice, shrink the links further and risk the headlines being unreadable, or let them spill over and make the boxes nonaligned slightly. On higher resolutions there is ample space, there's a screenshot in the design section.

I can easily remove the second column of news, but that means limiting the news articles to a mere 6 on the forums, but i guess if people are intrested they can use RSS or visit the frontpage.

So after all that, if the second news column is too much it can be remove, but for people on higher resolution, its a tad bare up at the top.... arrghh you ludites, after all that time i spent making sure it works perfectly in ie too

ah yes, its the desktop res... btw, your css file is out of date, the text is bigger than it should be.

Click:
http://forum.dead-donkey.com/templates/ ... rtDark.css

and hit refresh and see if that makes it better... I updated it and wonder if its still stuck in your cache.

The text should look like this:
Image

If that doesn't sort the font out let me know, as it should be displayed like that.

yeah font is smaller now but i still think the navigation side should be larger or listed singly instead of a few on a line....unless thats the res causing that?...i see a huge section for news and a few words trying to fill it whereas that empty space could be used elsewhere.

well if you move all that navigation details onto 1 line it would look worse, since you'll have one line and then a big empty box, since there are six entries for each of the other columns.

LOL.....yeah i kinda realised that after typing it but chose not to edit my dumbness out  but i stand by my words that it could be bigger and other than the news links there's no actual link to the mainpage? (my eyes are getting bad eh :P

Dont go there oftren as i should  but frontpage is looking good. Like the idea of it being easer to add latest rips.
A comment on the search function, will it be able to pick out AKA's and mis spelling. Only ask as i once ripped Blood Gnome only to find it under Bloodgnome or the other way round cant remember but this has caught me out a couple of times like Horror in the Attic was requested under The Attic Expiditions
Awesome work Spud
