I just made a couple posts and I'm looking at the times... about 6:26PM. My comp clock says an hour later. My cable says the same as my computer. I went to my profile, GMT -5 like it should be. What gives? did i miss something? :wacky:

there we go, i just added 3600 onto it... saves the hassle of asking the host to fix the clock... if that's even what it was.

you know i think there's just a bug in phpbb since fucktheinter.net and fileheaven.org are an hour behind.

However, i don't know what you mean, it seems to be okay, although i forgot to change it in session.php

infact i'm going to unfix it since i see it has problems with session times and marking threads as read, and it will need more editing to fix.

Fuck it, you know what time it is.

Is there a built in adjustment for daylight saving time?

EDIT:
Correct time now... :)

Now the posts won't auto "mark as read" after I read them...

And I think the older posts still show the incorrect time.

the time is now in the present... er hopefully. Well it observes DST, but i bet people in countries that don't use it will be wrong by an hour. However, who cares about them anyway?

Not all states here in the US observe it. :wacky:

I wish they would just get rid of it. Although it is supposedly good for the economy and saves money.

Yeah, but that's their problem in a way for not confirming to the standard. I got the 'fix' from the phpbb boards, the way to get true time is very complicated, this merely checks the server and if it observes DST, then it adjusts the clock. If its doesn't then it doesn't. Given most places do, including sweden and everywhere else in europe, it now observes it.

Everyone should observe it, lots of places don't like Hawaii, but because the vast majority of the world does (all british territories, all of europe, etc.) its probably fairer to introduce it. If it was a minority that observes it, then they should get rid of it but since its the other way round, its hardly fair that the ones that don't get priority.

I take it that your state is a backwards one? Well given that you don't use a standard convention of time, I think you'll just have to go into your profile and adjust the GMT to -1hr to countermand DST, sorry about having to do it, but its the way that works out best for most people.

The frontpage observes GMT with DST, it might be best to view it as visiting a place hence the time difference.

You might say that depending on which part of the state you are in, but no my state observes DST. The time now shows correct for me.

Hawaii and Alaska are the only ones that don't observe it, right? Non-continental states. Does Canada use it? Whatabout south america? Just wondering now, I never really aksed anyone before LOL.

Around the World. About 70 countries around the world observe daylight saving time in some form. Here are some interesting facts:

* Most of Canada uses DST. Some exceptions include the majority of Saskatchewan and parts of northeastern British Columbia.
* It wasn't until 1996 that Mexico adopted DST. Now all three Mexican time zones are on the same schedule as the United States.
* Also in 1996, members of the European Union agreed to observe a ?summertime period? from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October.
* In the winter months, Russia, which spans over 11 time zones, is always one hour ahead of standard time. In the summer, Russians turn their clocks ahead one more hour.
* Most countries near the equator don't deviate from standard time.
* In the Southern Hemisphere, where summer arrives in what we in the Northern Hemisphere consider the winter months, DST is observed from late October to late March.
* Three large regions in Australia do not participate in DST. Western Australia, the Northern Territory, and Queensland stay on standard time all year. The remaining south-central and southeastern sections of the continent (which is where Sydney and Melbourne are found) make the switch. This results in both vertical and horizontal time zones Down Under during the summer months.
* China, which spans five time zones, uses only one. The entire country is always eight hours ahead of Universal Time and it does not observe DST.
* In Japan, DST was implemented after World War II by the U.S. occupation. In 1952 it was abandoned because of strong opposition by Japanese farmers

And here's a pretty comprehensive info on it:

hey wow, i thought americans were complete enermies of the environment with Bush in charge:
Quote:
One of the major reasons given for observing DST in the United States is energy conservation. Theoretically, the amount of residential electricity needed in the evening hours is dependent both on when the sun sets and when people go to bed. Because people tend to observe the same bedtime year-round, by artificially moving sunset one hour later, the amount of energy used is theoretically reduced. United States Department of Transportation studies showed that DST reduces the country's electricity usage by one percent during each day DST is in effect.

Bush had nothing to do with that. And I think the energy conservation idea IS 'theoretical' at best.

and Thanks for the link above.
