i just got an idea for the movie rippers here at the forum, we ppl that dont rip but download can give u rippers points in how good u guys can rip a movie, a 1-6 rate system.... or something, dont u guys think its a good idea??

eh? I have decent taste in movies, i just rate anything that isn't as good as it should be very harshly.

The other factor of course is how good the DVD transfer is. If it's a poor transfer, the rip won't look so good despite how well it's been ripped.

That said, I'm always willing to hear feedback about my rips, as long as it's constructive. Some of my earlier ones were shite, but recently I feel they've been pretty good.

Anyone like to make a comment on any of my recent ones?

Well Ebola, yes. :oops:

Female Market I thought was OK, and it had a mainpage release at SR. It was hardsubbed though which folks don't seem to like. The original disc was a bit grainy to begin with.

My Dawn of the Dead rips sucked too, resolution was way too small, and 1 disc for a lengthy film like Dawn wasn't a good idea.

Might do a 2-Disc re-rip of Argento's cut of Dawn, ThickasyourWrist has already done the Director's cut 2-disc AC3, so no need for that one.

I managed to watch Night of the intruder the other day......good rip IMO but i didn't expect anything but quality from you DJ :wink:

There's actually a mod for phpbb that people can award points for. It does require the board code to be edited quite a bit though, but it could work out okay.

It's called the cash mod, and you can earn points by posting threads and be awarded points by other members.

I'm also seeing if I can modify it to award warning points ie. 10 and your banned. posting a leprachaun movie gets you ten points instantly :lol:

He goes thru all that trouble and ends up with lower points then before he did so......

I mean if a movie sucked you may be harsher when rating the tech specs then when you loved it..........?

For does sharing a rip that is not yours deserve as much "credits" as a own created rip ? I should think not - but what if that rip that isn't yours was extinct and sought after by many ? How would you rate that ?
And ,what if that rereleased rip was poor quality ? would that counterbalance things ?

you misunderstand, it can be implemented in countless ways. Go to google and search for cash mod (the thread on the phpbb boards run at some 20+ pages).

You can be awarded points for creating topics in the release section, to encourage people to release there stuff there for example. Spam filters are implemented to ensure flooding does not earn extra credit. You can have it so people have a point cash and award them to their favourite rippers as a kind of reward, say 100 points to designate as they see fit every month. This for example would show how grateful people are for their rips.

I am also bothered about the warning/banning possible implemention about it to be honest, that's why . I think your a little confused and thinking the warning points and the release points are in anyway related? They aren't, I was listing possible uses for the mod. The warning /ban thing would be only used by me and mods (if i choose to allow them access). I just saw that RPG boards use it for more experienced users to get power-ups/accesses to other sections and other priviledges and thought that was kind of neat. For me, it seems people aren't reading the guidelines and i thought a little point system might make people notice them and neaten the board up a bit.

For example, 1 point can be added to a warning cat. under their name for a misplaced topic, 5 points for an advert, 10 points for spam, etc. and then a certain point number can get their post priviledges removed for a while (ie. time to calm down and stop making my job a chore :lol:

)

I posted the suggest here, not because I agree with this topic, but more because monkey suggested something similar earlier that would need a lot of php code to implement.

As it stands the Cashmod does nothing more than add a point system and you can modify it in many ways. You can also have many different point systems running at once, as I suggested, Release points and a seperate Warning points can be added.

personally i couldn't give 2 sh*ts if anyone doesn't like the quality of my rip/comment or whatever else you want to rate...if you don't like it you can buy the dvd yourself and rip it yourself if you don't like what i do

we don't, like i said above many times, it was just something someone suggested and I found a mod that made this possible, previously I'd said it would be very hard to do. The reason I noticed the mod was because I was looking for a warning/banning system for the forums that is more user friendly and it's a generic mod with a lot of users. As some people seemed interested in this idea I merely pointed it out as a way of doing this, personally I'm not that bothered but I still listen to people's suggestions
