You can mount to a folder in windows too
I'll grab the ext3 driver, but does it really offer anything I really need over NTFS?
Bearing in mind I'll want to convert to whatever Vista uses at some point

that's what i actually was talking about, windows, i wasn't talking about linux with NTFS (you can mount anything to a directory in linux so its not really worth specifiying ). Everyone knows you can mount to a folder in linux, but everyone seems suprised when i say my ntfs drive is mounted in a folder in windows. The whole filesystem in windows is hella shite though, it only works with ntfs

Native linux support, no need to defrag, better supports just pulling it out without corruption. If you don't use linux then probably don't need it, but ntfs is annoying as hell and windows is getting harder and more annoying to work with these days.
NTFS is still dodgy in linux because its a closed source driver, you can read/write now in many distros now though. Its just ext3 won't be causing you problems in linux since that's the native filesystem, and its windows support is good since its just a port of an opensource driver

Well I finally got a DVD burner recently, so I've voted for AFS.
I'm a bit concerned to see AFS rips with an AC3 soundtrack for old mono films though, surely the extra 45 MB would be better served increasing the video bitrate?
The difference between a 128k MP3 track and an AC3 one would be barely noticeable for pre-Dolby era movies I think.

hehe.. those funny little ludites without a clue
Logic suggests those who can't afford a dvdr burner, can't afford a standalone that plays mpeg4 let alone one that can playback CQM Then again since cdrs are more expensive maybe not

I have a dvd burner. I just hate to waste space for cheap junk like that. And no, I don't have a standalone, I don't have a tv set either.

Please complain about filesizes here
I was wondering, do people who support afr, do they think that really lousy movies should be encoded as 1/3rd. I know there's some movies that personally i think that's too much for, based on the movie quality. I guess if you were going to do a 2cd rip anyway, then a 1/3rd is better. I know i wouldn't download a lot of movies, say half the friday the 13th sequels if they were 1/3rd, they'd be better as 1/6th.
I guess lousy movie is very subjective too, i guess the real solution is choice. Its good to see a 1/3rd when there's a plethora of crappy nukes around.
I dunno, i can understand the point that usb make that if it needs the quality that 1.3rd offers it should use it, but sometimes the movie just sucks so badly its not worth the extra space

I almost always prefer 1/6th. The last time I downloaded a 2cd rip were the Nightwatch / Daywatch movies. For me to accept > 1/6th it must be something special. Not necessarily quality. I must be convinced that it is worth it.

No, I am pro-afr. Though I must admit, that I phrased my original post on purpose a bit ambiguous . I expected you to go for it.

If you buy a DVDR spindle that has 100 discs you usually pay between 20-30 cents per disc, depends on the brand and speed.
Divide that amount by 3 and you have your average 1/3 DVD rip which costs you between 7-10 cents. THAT IS NOT MUCH. Ever for junk movies.
Even Troll 2 was worth half of that amount. Dont get cheap on us now. Silly wanker

El Mariachi, + bandwidth cost and time though
For example if it hogs your line you have the pennies that costs you, but there's also the fact that your tied down to that extra bandwidth which may keep you on emule or be used on another movie.
Tis only pennies still though, and given emule is on all the time and rarely utilises all the line its still a factor.
For me bit torrent is more than just bandwidth and storage, the fact that it knocks me off emule and i can get the stuff on nzbs makes it far too 'expensive' for everyday use.
