Compact Disc storage is a waste of space on every side. The media holds less, one movie may take up 2 discs, which in the physical reality is more space. A 100 stack spindle of DVDrs can hold 300 AFR movies, eleven of which being Friday the 13th... 100 CDS is 50 movies of less quality and less convience. Also I got an HDTV in the past month, and 720/704 width looks alot better. Standalone friendliness of some rips are a bitch though, 2GB+ files and certain CQM's make shits on my player. Lookin at a new HDDVD/xvid,etc player though...

CDs are dead. Within the next 10 years, higher quality audio will be sought by the general public and CDS will be flushed for good. Too bad since you could only get reliable cheap ones recently....

Someone already working on an afr standard for blue-ray or HD-DVD? I guess when afr finally is established, noone wants to use DVD anymore. So think of the future early.

At the risk of sounding like d0c, I'd rather have DVD-R

Actually, I wouldn't say I prefer DVD-R in all situations, just the VN's that I don't consider good enough to buy. If the source is DVD though then DVD-R is not downgrading further, you cannot upgrade from DVD to MPEG4.

I wasn't meaning that, i was meaning why waste 50%+ filesize on an inferior codec when a codec upgrade can mean an indistinguishable drop in quality to huge filesize gains? Its what ripping for the internet is all about imo :)

x264 i can't wait till there's hardware to support it in the home market, it just puts an exclamation mark under the unnessacary waste of dvd-r / mpeg2.

I mean mpeg2 won't look worse if you throw bits and bits at it, but you can get the exact same quality at what, 50%+ of the filesize? I just don't think the filesize bloat works on emule, not to say people don't spread dvdrs, its just too much for no gain for me. :)

That said i got shit loads of dvdrs, but they are mostly from convienance point of view and from newsgroups where the waste isn't actually that important. Emule i just think that downgrading to a poorer codec just doesn't work in its favour.

That is great. I have supported the idea. Now we have dvdr with two layers and thats obout 8 gigs so you can put aboaut 5 movies with 1.46GB.

It is great becouse now you are downlouding one file and it can be much faster if it has a lot of sources.

Thanks

El Mariachi, + bandwidth cost and time though

For example if it hogs your line you have the pennies that costs you, but there's also the fact that your tied down to that extra bandwidth which may keep you on emule or be used on another movie.

Tis only pennies still though, and given emule is on all the time and rarely utilises all the line its still a factor.

For me bit torrent is more than just bandwidth and storage, the fact that it knocks me off emule and i can get the stuff on nzbs makes it far too 'expensive' for everyday use.

screw bandwith, we wouldn't know if a movie i.e. Troll 2 would suck. You have to download it to find out! ;)

I have emule + bittorrent running on my server 24/7.
NZB I do on my regular PC since most stuff comes in fast like a penis going into Lux's ass.

except you can use the base assumption that its going to suck, and be pleasantly suprised and get a better version when its not. The sheer amount of overhead and wastage degrades the network performance, which is based upon huge queue sizes and large packets. Net saving would be GB, upon GB, upon GB very quickly. I know for a fact, 90%~ of my collection 1rd or 1/3 is ample. and yes, we knew Troll 2 would suck by how shite troll one was :wacky:

BT sucks like a $1 hooker, there's no point with that shit anymore :) You'll know, you got nzb :)
