edit: nm

I'm waiting for access to the "not so live" feed... can't believe m$ pr pulled this crap on me and making me wait. Very annoying but it sounds like they've pretty much won the "next gen battle" of PS3 vs Xbox2 @ e3.

This has got to be one of the comments of E3 so far:

Quote:
Krazy Ken's at it again. Following the surprise pre-E3 announcement of the PlayStation 3 price, Sony Computer Entertainment head Ken Kutaragi spoke with Japan's IT Media and offered up this beauty: "It's probably too cheap."

I don't know about you, but i'm going to get my Butler to go and pre-order me one tomorrow :wacky:

Here's a collection of material dealing with announcements. If someone has some stuff to look out for please post some links. I'm finding it a lot easier to find stuff on wii since there's a lot more to report (ie. regarding the "novel" pad). Halo video is good quality, fable 2, not so good. So I'll kick off with:

Wii video:
http://www.gamesarefun.com/consoles/wii/mov_01.wmv -> Promo (people playing some games)
http://downloads.megagames.com/movies/Wii_Mov_02.zip / http://www.gamesarefun.com/consoles/wii/mov_02.wmv -> Longer footage, more games

Red Steel hands on (see people play it):
http://revolutionmovies.ign.com/revolut ... owwide.mov

Halo 3 Video:
http://downloads.megagames.com/movies/h ... _large.wmv -> Teaser, cinematic FMA (in game, but cut scene)

Fable 2:
http://xbox360movies.ign.com/xbox360/vi ... _qtlow.mov -> just fmv :(

super Mario Galaxy:
http://revolutionmovies.ign.com/revolut ... owwide.mov -> loq q video

Duck Hunt for the wii:
http://uk.revolution.ign.com/articles/706/706955p1.html --> :lol:

wii games:
http://uk.revolution.ign.com/articles/706/706630p1.html

Resident Evil announced for wii:

A look at Sony PS3:

I'm not sure about that $249 price tag for the Wii, Nintendo are going to have to be MUCH cheaper than the competition (they've already stated they will be)

Gamestop sell the core from as little as $279 (s/h) or $299 new (walmart), a $50 saving isn't going to be enough to tempt buyers away from the 360, especially given the poor reputation Nintendo have in the states due to the "failure" of the GC

I can see a $199 pricepoint as M$ have already stated there's going to be a price drop before the ps3 and Wii launches which will see the core 360 @ ~$250

I hope so, if that was the case it would mean the Wii would be ~£110 (at todays's exchange rates) in the UK, even allowing for the shafting we ALWAYS get on everything it should be under £150

I assume that's why they didn't announce anything so they can change it.

I agree $250 is too much. The buy four games and get it free sounds cool though, it encourages people to invest in software, depends what nintendo's profit margins are like. Even buy for games and get the rev for $50 is quite appealing. Pimping the software and regarding the console as just a peripheral, so to speak.

Nintendo just pulled a fast one with the DS lite, which they suddenly dropped to $129.99 just before launch.

But then nintendo aren't always that smart on matters of pricing, regions, etc.

This wii certainly isn't something for cinematic games, but i imagine old school and arcade... that kind of stuff isn't my kind of area. I'm not really an emulation fan. I play it, complete it, get bored and then i'm done. I only return to stuff like LttP, or i played RE because they rejazzed it up as RE:Remake

I need a Wii

I'll almost certainly pick up a Wii, you'll be able to pick up both it and the 360 for less thatn a PS3(!) and I need my Nintendo Fix

HOWEVER, the retro thing is being eaten into heavily by M$ and live, I can emulate everything up to and including the N64 on the xbox and I own a GC. The retro part of the Wii is looking more and more redundant IMHO

M$ have been VERY cool with this years E3, there are lots of new demos, trailers and news reposts available for download on the 360, pretty much everything they can give away they have been :D

i dunno, i thought that m$ really just showed titles we already knew about and were top heavy on trailers. I really wasn't wowed into wanting one. They beat the crap out of sony's conference but then that wasn't hard.

I mean fable 2 was just a lousy FMV sequence. I HATE FMV. Its one of the most retarded things you can do.

BTW, am i the only person that really doesn't like halo games or think they are anything special? Not the footage, that looked pretty, i mean the actual games, halo 1/2/etc... its like, erm just a fps? That's why it completely bombed on the pc. Everyone goes on and on about it, but its just a okay fps. Is it people overcompensating or do i have no taste?

All in all, no wonder snake tried to top himself this year

Live-action Metal Gear Solid movie confirmed

In his official E3 2006 catalog, MGS creator Hideo Kojima announces a big-screen adaptation of the legendary Konami series is in the works.

LOS ANGELES--When excited attendees left yesterday's Konami press conference, they were handed a catalog for Studio Kojima's forthcoming slate of games. However, many didn't know it, since the brochure was a clever imitation of the newsletter handed out each day at of the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

On the front of the Kojima catalog was a "breaking news" box, which bore the headline "Solid Snake...On the silver screen?" The blurb below it read, "In a late-breaking surprise announcement, director Hideo Kojima revealed that his most famous creation--Metal Gear Solid--is getting the live-action treatment."

Given the semicomic nature of the fake E3 newsletter/Kojima Productions catalog, many thought the story was a joke. However, on the last page of the pamphlet was a page-long article on the project, which showed that Kojima was dead serious when he made the announcement.

After assuring readers at length that German director Uwe Boll will not have anything to do with the project, as rumored, Kojima talked about the film. "I have received many offers to adapt Metal Gear Solid. It has taken a long time, but we have finally settled on an arrangement," said the revered designer. "False facts aside, a movie project is underway. I have finalized a Class-A contract with a party in Hollywood."

Close-up of movie announcement blurb.
Kojima did not mention the name of the party, a release date, or any potential directors or stars. However, ever since the original PlayStation Metal Gear Soild, the English-language dialogue of game hero Solid Snake has been voiced by Hollywood figure David Hayter. Though a prolific voice actor, Hayter has enjoyed greater success as a screenwriter, with credits for X-Men, X2, and the forthcoming Watchmen under his belt.

---

At least Uwe Boll can't get his hands on this one.

HHAH/FH Scoop - Nintendo Rep lets slip virtual console - Platform for independant developers?
I was listening to a great podcast and it was pretty big news. A nintendo rep, i presume accidently, was taking the piss out of xbox live having "7 games", and he replied to the effect that Nintendo will have "20 year library" of nintendo games, and other platforms like the sega genisis available at "launch".

He also then let rip and it will let developer's who have big aspirations but small budgets to develop and deliver games, and take advantage of the wii controller/

So it sounds like it going to be not only will nintendo's virtual console offer a backcatalogue of lots and lots of games from lots and lots of consoles, but there'll also be a Steam like delivery platform of sorts, but open for independant developers.

This sounds great, nintendo have previously mentioned how "development costs are too high", so if you read between the lines, they've been alluding to providing a cheap development platform perhaps?

I'm very happy about this if its true and it wasn't just a rep getting carried away, killing off publishers is a very, very good thing.

Here's the source:
http://www.vgmfusion.com/get.php?web=ht ... ly_E62.mp3

http://www.vgmfusion.com/

I recommend these podcasts, they are very informative and entertaining. They also take a slightly different spin to my opinion, they think Sony did pretty well dispite the price bomb and the pad. They do think Microsoft 'won' the conferances which i think was spot on, and they didn't rate nintendo's very highly and spend a while slating them. Luckily, if your intending to buy a nintendo, they say that the controller could be something really great and stuff like mario is awesome, and even madden is unique and fun.

Nintendo Chooses Opera for Wii Web
I know there's some opera buffs out there so this ones for you:
http://revolution.ign.com/articles/707/707822p1.html

Miyamoto: Successor to Wii HD
Quote:
Speaking at a Q&A session at E3 yesterday, Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto defended the decision not to include HD technology with the Wii, but added that the company's next system would be HD compatible.

Miyamoto explained that the number of HDTV's in homes is "really not that high, yet. Of course I think five years down the road it would be pretty much a given that Nintendo would create an HD system, but right now the predominant television set in the world is a non-HD set."

Miyamoto added: "We thought it would be better to create a system that allows you to interact with any TV set you have in your home in an entirely new, different way, and even kind of turn that into a toy for your TV that anyone can pick up, interact with and enjoy - rather than only the people who have a very high-tech, specific kind of TV set."

So there you go. HD Mario is only a mere five years away.

Once again top heavy on the nintendo news, but that's what they seem to be post about @ gamespot and ign, if you got some pc announcments in particular I'd love to hear what's going on. Particularly a video on spore.

This was removed from IGN :

Quote:
Ubisoft Montreal revealed its next incredible project, Assassins: Creed, exclusively for PlayStation 3 at E3 this year, much to the delight of Sony console fans and to the dismay of Microsoft consoles fans. Ubisoft officially would not comment on a possible Xbox 360 version.

According to sources close to the company, however, there are potential plans for an Xbox 360 version at Assassins: Creed sometime in 2007. Additionally, Microsoft sources who asked not to be mentioned by name, claimed the demo, hidden behind closed doors at E3, was running on an Xbox 360 using a third-party USB PlayStation controller. The game system was hidden in a stand covered by a sheet. Again, Ubisoft officials would not comment.

Removed due to a call from Sony, or because it was innacurate?

BTW Gran Turismo 4 was running on a PC :

Since when does ubisoft do exclusives ? - exactly, debate settled there.

Anyway, summarized....

Man did this show suck

Plenty of 3 & 4 star games....C&C 3 , GoW , Dead rising , alan wake to name just a hand full...
But IMHO, not one NOT a friggin single one 5 star must have gem !!!
The one single game that had me shedding a tear of joy (mainly out of nostalgia I admit) would be ..... Lemmings for the eye toy !
No more infuriating point and clicking..... Just shape a brigde with your body !
Wii controller eat your hard out :P

This years sony show was historical I'm afraid - The year they commited seppaku :hang:
When I see solid snake in mgs4 I cannot help but see the state of sony's ageing franchise warhorses in general.....
They just lost the lead in europe and NA.... wonder how long it will take them to realize that....
Time to sell your stocks in sony I guess...

Revolting to see that the most jubileed game of the show by the so called professional journalists was a friggin trailer of that mediocre FPS :matrix:

Neutral towards Wii for now...... must actually feel it first.

ah well....there were still a few ps2 games I never got around to.... :D

There's been a few, Rayman and Red Steel are Wii exclusives this time round, for example.

Quote:

For me, I disagree there were four or five star titles, from the playable ones:
Total War -> bigger, better? Rome total war was THE best game of when it was released, better than Resident Evil 4 as good as that was. This one is set to be better. In terms of rts? c&c? bah... shite next to total war!
Spore -> looks really fun and really big, this really could be a title to watch
Zelda Twilight Princess -> its zelda! I've watched about ~20mins of footage and it looks like an easy AAA software title, horse back battling, huge maps and dungeons, etc. Could be a Ocarina matcher if not beater.
Mario Galaxy -> Mario64 flashbacks, 100% positive feedback in terms of gameplay from pretty much all the stuff i've read

Crysis looks great, but i'm getting pretty sick of fps right now. Same goes for 3rd person bullet time action adventures... action-adventures are my favourite genre but even i'm getting tired of the same old crap. Unfortunately being tired of fps/3rdps has wiped out most of the show

Consoles I think came out in this order:
1. xbox360
2. Wii
3. Collect underpants
4. ....
5. Profit
6. PS3

Best System? once again the PC has devasted everything, okay two new consoles got all the attention? Yeah, but the windows vista and Live anywhere are big news, and what you may not have heard is that all PC titles shown were running in DirectX9, and DirectX10 is supposed to be at least 6x more powerful. Supposed to make the difference between 8 and 9 look like a gnatt's fart.

PC had the most appealing, graphically intensive and innovative titles. In terms of graphically impressive console wise, I'd say xbox360. In terms of innovation, Wii. In terms of console i'd want to play, I want to see if Wii's remote works so i guess that's what i want to play at this point.

after ps3 launch would be the time, sony has just been hit with record losses a couple of months back so the share prices are way down.

There's still TGS coming up, but they've messed up with E3 this year and E3 is pretty much the Western Game show.

I think nintendo is holding something back for TGS, because I think Sony's holding something back and they know it. I think however, Microsoft has played all of its cards.

We'll see I guess.

Man did this show suck

Only if your a sony investor/fanboy or were planning on owning a ps3 exclusively. Every other platform has had some great news imo, pc wise there were some great announcements and it had some very strong software, there's been reassuring reviews of wii in action, especially the controller, xbox360 has proven its graphically capable of matching/surpassing the ps3. I don't think i can agree with that, even though i'm dissapointed by PS3 :(

No it was confirmed as running on an xbox360, ubisoft will have told ign to pull the plug or no more exclusives. For example ubisoft let them demo red steel about a month back and allowed them to release their preview as an exclusive last monday. If these magazines don't pander to the publisher they can kiss their exclusives goodbye. Sucks really, its like the fact that every screenshot in publication is hand picked by the companies PR department and has to be approved. Its all really deceptive.

Yeah, i read that too
What was the line, i'm sure someone at the sony conferance said "no other system was capable" of running the demo... yeah what ever!

It was like last year, most stuff was running on G5 for both Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo's was running on a G5 but their console is a G5 anyway  So if you want the best system, by a G5 Mac

I really liked Fahrenheit and their new game looks great, too. Some screenshots from the technical real-time demo they showed at the E3 and links to the video.
