I must have completely spaced on this but i found it by going through some nintendo "no it can't be called Wii" denial pages that are linked to in a number of articles. I think there's not much chance of this and that's some fanboys dreaming of some mystical shit like they always do, but this D'Fusion stuff looks rahter impressive. Basically at E3 2004 a french company demonstrated a technology called D'Fusion and its completely blown me away... its amazing. Basically it adds 3d models over a real world environment via a digicamera and some pc software.

Here's the video of it:

Look at the way the car bounces all over the place, that's pretty neat. I can imagine of loads of fun games that could be made by blending into the environment your working with (ie, platformer in your living room)

And the official sites:

Video Clips

I obviously spaced on this 2 years ago, anyone else heard anything about this stuff?

not very likely, its fanboys dreaming, but it would be cool. I mean instead of having a strategy game on a generic terrain you can have a small soldiers battle across the floor.

These french chaps seem to have sold this technology to a long list of manufacturers of cars, etc. I dunno how practical it would be outside of a pre-defined environment (not pre-moddelled, but variations in lighting, postitioning of the webcams, etc. would be a nightmare.)

I was very impressed by that demo and that's two years old. :)
