Donkey Server No1 as far as I am aware. Seems to be the one that connects first time anyway.

can some explain to me wut the difference is between servers and how that relates to the source you are receiving your file from? thank you...just need some clarity :D

servers mean very little beyond indexing your files and searches. You send your filelist to a server, and you send your search to a server (or kad).

The bigger the server the more initial sources you may get from it, and the more access to your shared list people get if they are on the same server, but the filelists are shared between servers anyway.

Source Exchange originally went through the servers only, but these days only a small amount does, its mainly source exchange between clients, and KAD.

It means very little what server your on, as long as its not tiny.

You can tell who your connected to by looking at your queue and upload/download (bottom of the transfers tab). Hit the button at the top of the bottom tab to cycle through the views.

Once again, it really doesn't matter. If you are unfirewalled and connected to a largish server, emule swaps ips with other emule's and kad gets your ips too.

Its really not that important to find an individual peer to the point of scouring the network for them. Its not really a necessity in this day and age.

Back in 2000-3, it was important to some degree that you were on the same server because edonkey2000 (the antequated parent of emule) did not exchange sources with peers, did not have a serverless network and the servers weren't as optimised as they are now. you'd often find in people's signatures what server they were on, and sites even ran servers to help people find each other. However, emule very shortly after it was created invented source exchange between peers whereby a peer will send a list of other peers after the same file. If you double click your downloads you'll see where the sources game from (server/kad/passive/etc.). You'll see that a while after connecting, servers account for very little of your sources.

The important thing to remember is that emule is not direct connect, its multi-sourced downloads, the peers all pass on information to each other, and even if the servers went down, kad and source exchange would still mean you'd see sources for files.

well kad used to be a bit frivelous, but now its very useful.

There maybe a situation where its vital to connect to a specific peer (can't think of any), but generally its just not that important, its multisourced network so generally even if you can't connect to certain people you can connect to peers in a chain to get what you need.
