what is the codec used? mpg? avi? DV/Divx/Xvid? I have no problems opening 19GB avi and mpg files in any application, it might be a codec or container problem your having.
You can use Gspot to diagnose what the codec is

You could try GOMPlayer http://www.gomplayer.com/main.html Be patient though, with a file that size it might take a little while for it to start playing.
