Heya computer masters, I need some recommendations for a new graphic card.

Just recently took a serious path back to video editing, so Im boosting system memory and would need a better graphic card too.

Im heading for something with good pixel shading and lotsa power :D Or whatever would give me better rendering speeds with video poop.

Dunno what's the current status with ATI or Nvidia. I now have an ATI, so dunno if it would be a prob with just replacing it with Nvidia.

btw the motherboard doesn't supprt graphs with 3,3V, whatever that means

Thanks for any suggestions! :beerchug:

edit: oh shit, just noticed. What's this new PCI-E thing? I thought AGP was in use or something :wacky: I don't think my motherboard has PCI-E

edi2: reading over the internet, I guess Im stuck in the past :wacky: Dang, maybe a complete upgrade would be needed. Although I think pumping the old hardware with a great AGP card and more memory could prove enough :zombie:
Geforce 8800 GTX (nvidia) it is wery good but expensive.

Thanks, but am afraid I can't plug that anywhere :wacky:

Don't have pci-express... So basically I'm left to choose for the best AGP graphic card.

Cool, thanks for the suggestion. But I suck with these things so it would take me ages to plug it all together, and then it would be better if I actually went and bought a completely new machine. No cash for that though.

So I'll just upgrade this one a bit, already works fine, but it needs an extra boost for what I work with.

My old ATI graphic is 128 Radeon 9600, couple of years old I think, so a new fast AGP would suit my needs.

meh, radeons aint so hot anymore imo.

Personally, i'd get a motherboard + PCI-E, and some higher clocked ram. You'll be saving £50 on your graphic card now with PCIE (and that nearly covers the motherboard) since AGP is a premium/defunct, and then you don't have to do it the next cycle. You have desperately little ram for video too, isn't your pc thrashing all the time? You'd need at least 1GB.

Might be worthwhile updating the whole lot, but waiting till after xmas.

I'm updating next year to a dual core and probably a DirectX10 card. Probably a new setup. Will be a lot of money but then the necessity for having a decent pc is high for work, and the byproduct is gaming pwnage.

for DX9 cards (a dead end, but MUCH less of one than an AGP card) the Radeon 1950pro is about the best cost / performance ratio ATM.

But I wouldn't consider getting anything that's not DX10 at the moment, DX9 cards will be horribly out of date in 6 months when DX10 starts to get a foothold

Works decently, but has annoying glitches etc. due to other tasks running in the back. But I'll sort that, already decided to get 2x 1gb to replace these oldies.

THat won't cost a lot, so I guess it will do for now. Gonna hold for graphics then, will wait when I have more doe and make a complete upgrade maybe next year :)

Thanks for the tippies fellas :beerchug:

Its called an obsession lol :googley:

Annual tax returns replace the big bits & small bits get picked up through the year. The big case I've had a long time & had numerous setups in that.

Decided to try out the x2 chip with the SLI board & I've yet to find a game that doesnt run real nice. Encoding films with the 2gb of ram in that on x64 windows has cut the time it was taking on the other pc by over half.

I would recommend dual core to everyone & the prices have dropped considerably for the socket 939 chip as the AM2 is out & so you should be able to pick them up off ebay reasonably cheap.

The problem I found with windows x64 was a major lack of drivers for hardware & having to mod the msi installer on a lot of games to make them install, but theres help sites run by enthusiasts that make their own drivers & thus I'm 100% 64bit now thanks to planet amd 64 site

Damn, I'd need that :(

But I'm due for a full overhaul later this year also, I guess.
Will quad core's $ drop or will they remain out there for the next 6 months ?
