So much for their new leniency, once again a NON ELECTED organisation gets to dictate what I, as an adult, can and cannot see

http://www.bbfc.co.uk/website/Classifie ... enDocument

IMHO, they need reminding that they are the British Board of Film Classification not the British Board of Film Censorship.

from their "Vision Statement":
Quote:
We help to protect vulnerable viewers and society from the effects of viewing potentially harmful or unsuitable content while respecting adult freedom of choice.

That's what the RATINGS are for: to protect the young, vulnerable viewers. How the hell is it respecting an adult's freedom of choice when they remove their ability to legitimately purchase a product, instead of rating it appropriately. Assholes

It was, up until the early 80's. They changed the name, but not the purpose :matrix:

ah, it had been posted on the forums already

Yeah, stupid... the other game to have this honour is perhaps my favourite racing/driving game of all time. Carmageddon.

 leading to a fucking stupid situation where you bought the censored game, then went home and installed the uncensor patch.

It's a farce

I personally hate the BBFC, for too many reasons to get into and I'll just get wound up.

But, in all fairness, and I genuinly believe this..... and would laugh in the face of ANY BBFC representative...if they honestly believe that by banning/not rating this game it actually means that it will NOT be available in this country.

You have 2 scenarios :

1) The game gets an 18 cert and is available ONLY to adults to purchase
or
2) It becomes the underground Video-Game NASTY because it's banned by the BBFC.

I think option 2.... actually causes more harm to people then option 1.
Either why - YES - kids will still play it, but I think that they just encourage younger kids to WANT to play it.
I was the same in the 80's/90's I was DESPERATE to see Last House, Reservoir Dogs et al - not for the filmactic experience but becaue they were banned!

Honestly if they don't think it's deserves an 18 cert then they need to re-evaluate their certification categories.

Its the overbearing naivity that annoys me:
Quote:
could involve a range of unjustifiable harm risks, to both adults and minors, within the terms of the Video Recordings Act, and accordingly that its availability, even if statutorily confined to adults, would be unacceptable to the public

Its all down to prudish moralistic opinion, any psychologist that's qualifications don't mainly include tv appearances wouldn't back the claim its a harm.

They've taken a moral opinion and said you and I, as law obiding citizens, are too immature to comprehend something as basic as fiction and reality. They've failed to understand gameplay mechanics, just as they do art, and chosen a stupid and oppressing path.

Very annoying, I make a point of going out of my way to acquire banned material and offering it to as many people as possible. Always and always will. When its released, you will find it in the games section.

eh? :o

LEGAL TO OWN?

Is that right?

Rockstar spokesman Rodney Walker wrote:
"Manhunt 2" was meant to be a horror game, something akin to gory films like "Saw."

He called the BBFC's decision a form of censorship because the public would never get to decide for itself.

"People think of video games as a kids' medium but the fans are so diverse and the games are diverse," he said. "When you ban a game, you're putting a limit on what sort of creative choices people can make."

But Walker insisted that the game would "involve a range of unjustifiable harm risks to both adults and minors." The BBFC said it had given Rockstar and parent company Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. six weeks to appeal the board's decision.

Except, i've lost a lot of interest because of:
http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/buyers_guide.jsp
Quote:
*Please note that Nintendo does not sell or license games that carry the ESRB rating "AO" (Adults Only).

Effectively, it may get passed in america but unless nintendo change their policy they won't license it.

They've got a tough choice here, I think Nintendo courted rockstar for Bully and GTA, but they got Manhunt. Wonder how this is going to play out.

Looks like manhunt's a bit fucked :
First Nintendo :
Quote:
Nintendo has commented that as stated on Nintendo.com, Nintendo does not allow any AO rated content on any of its systems. So therefore a release of Manhunt 2 on the Wii looks virtually impossible, as Rockstar will need Nintendo's consent to even begin shipping such a title even if it is through non-traditional distribution methods.

Then Sony:
Quote:
David Karraker, a PR spokesperson for Sony has stated that it's SCE's policy not to allow the playback of AO rated content on their systems, therefore Manhunt 2 making an appearance on the Playstation formats is out of the question. So it looks like Rockstar will seriously be forced to edit the game in a bid to lower its classification, or else they will be blocked from all video game platforms.

Looks like it's not coming out at all

interesting, carmageddon although banned doesn't have an entry to indicate that it was/is visually censored:
http://www.bbfc.co.uk/website/Classifie ... enDocument

Very annoying

Anyway, manhunt2's banning in all its glory:
http://www.bbfc.co.uk/website/Classifie ... enDocument

And why the bbfc shouldn't be allowed to review games:
Quote:
The BBFC has placed this work in the Beat 'em up genre(s).

I only played the first one briefly, but i'm pretty sure it wasn't a beat em up :?

Manhunt 2 would have been released uncut in Scandinavia with an 18+ PEGI certificate if not for Take-Two's suspension.

(Alledged) Uncut beta for the PS2:
NZB

No sign of the wii version... here's hoping the uncut wii beta turns up, or at least an uncut release from some reason.

Is that the DAGGER release? If not this also claims to be uncensored.

I wonder if it will work on a PS3?

I knew the internet would make a mockery of the whole Manhunt 2 debacle.
