Post subject:  PSPs.

Hello there.

I'm thinking about getting a PSP for the quiet shifts at work. Two questions, if I may.

1. Anyone got one? If so, any good/recomendations for games etc.

2. How easy is it to watch downloaded stuff on them? I'd rather not start chipping/modding if possible.

Ta very much. :beerchug:

1. brother has one which is gathering dust, my advice is don't buy one to be honest... over priced, crappy non-portable like games, etc. I don't think its an overly great mobile device. You'd be better with a laptop :)
2. videos? you must re-encode everything. Firmware patching is a bitching, the whole situation is a real mess, every other game has a bloody mandatory update.

I'm not a fan, as you might tell

Blimey. That pants?

I'm also considering the laptop possibility, they're just a bit bulky for my job etc.

Cheers for the info though.

A GP2X will play XviD / DivX AVIs and can run emulators if you're into the retro thing.

I don't know. I don't like the DS interface, the GP2x is more like the PSP's.

The GP2X was designed for Korean animators/game designers so they could have software on the go IIRC.

Quote:
What's in the box?

240Mhz GP2X Console MK2 (Latest version)
4 Rechargable Batteries (AA)
GP2X Pouch, Hand Strap & Headphones
USB Cable for PC connection (With 2.0 Support)
Preloaded Linux with Media player (MP3, Divx, Xvid etc.)
CD with Games, Utilities, MP3 player, Movie player
Firmware 3.0 (with 5 bundled games)
SDK - Make your own games!
Full User Manual
How to Guide/ Movie Samples/ Game Ports included

The design is simple and neat. It's thin, but not so thin that playing games becomes awkward.

It takes 2 AA batteries, but gives you 5 - 10 hours from them. No need to worry about having to recharge when outside. Everywhere has AA batteries.

The screen is large and bright and there are 6 face buttons, 2 shoulder buttons and a 16 way digital joypad.

There are 2 volume buttons, an SD slot, a USB port, a headphones port, an EXT port, a TV out port so you can use it on a TV and a 3.3V in port so you can use a power supply.

Supplied software can be used on a PC to copy things over the the GP2x, or you can use a normal card reader/writer. Connecting to your PC could not be more simple.

The GP2X has an easy to use onscreen interface for playing games, watching movies, listening to music and changing settings. It's quick, easy and reliable.

A little big by today's standards I guess, but its totally portable in cargo-style pants pockets. Its not nearly capable of PSP gfx though. Maybe quake 2  But then again two 200mhz CPU's with 64meg of RAM @ 320x240 might be able to squeeze some more.

interesting. I'm looking for something portable i can work on to avoid "downtime", but i don't think this one is it. Seems like basic linux, but looking at the specs you won't be able to run tenebrae Quake. No wifi either?

I think i'm gonna stick with my DS for games and ipod for video/audio (although i'm not a big fan of video on the move, robot chicken and videocasts are perfect for this size).

anyway, where do you work where your able to play a freakin games console? I don't even have time to even browse the internet at work, let alone sit around playing games?

Transport industry, night shift, out in the sticks. Only just started, but very, very quiet. Doesn't pay much, but it's all about quality of life rather than money.

By "quality" I mean "easy".

 No, it's not : http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=71040

3.5 fps, the PsP has OK hardware, but it's NEVER going to emulate the DS at anything like full speed

my brother has one, its all good if you got spare time to mess with the firmwares and loading the games etc etc (the work that my brother asked me to too)

if its meant to fill those little brakes its perfect but if you watch or play over half an hour you will get bored and tired (i tried to watch a movie but the screen is just too small)

but hey if you still decide to get it, check out this site http://www.blackcats-games.net/index.php (loads of games)

over and out
