A few days ago, my PC restarted because of some security update (you know, those annoying things from MS). Since that update, my upload has been like 0-5 kB/s whereas it used to be 70-100 kB/s if I wanted to.
Also, my queue is empty. WTF?? It used to have hundreds of users waiting to get some.

What the hell happened and how can I solve it?

This shit might have another cause, but I don't think so. Apart from the security update, nothing changed for my PC in the last few weeks.

Click the start button and select "run..." enter appwiz.cpl
Check the check box at the top which makes the windows updates show up in the list. Search for the update (dunno if you can do this by date under XP) and uninstall the update.

@ karst: yes, still high ID. No, IP not changed.

@ RedVeil: mmm, is that really a good idea? I mean, it's a security update which was downloaded and installed automatically, whereas all other updates are downloaded and installed by me, manually.

Wouldn't hurt to uninstall the update... or at least find out what it updated. You can always install again.

Could just be a coincidence. I've often wanted to blame the wrong thing for problems...

Stolen from another site:

Quote:
In one of the recent Windows updates and with all new XP versions, the concurrent connection limit is reset to 10 connections.

The work around we have used for ther last 2 years no longer will change the limit to 50.

Since the updat does not annouce that it has changed the limit back to 10 most users never know that it happened .

The results is very poor torrent performance.

If you have used the event 4226 patcher to set the limit to 50 connections in the past, then you should run it again and you will get one of these messages:
[1] your level is 50, do you really want to change this? or "your connection level is 10. do you want to change it to 50?

If the awnser is 50 then your good to go... If the awnser is 10 then Microsoft has changed your connection limit.

I don't care for Windows. I don't use it.

As Wargand implies, this is no hoax. Windows default limit for
open connections is set to 10. You can also check this out:

http://www.lvllord.de/?lang=en&url=4226patch/faq

This is the site that had a nice little fix for increasing the max
connections to what ever you wanted (typically 50). I guess this
doesn't work anymore with the new patch? Maybe Lvllord will
make a new patch?

Ok so this is Windows XP SP2 relevant. Since I'm running W2k I'm not affected.

You could try installing the new SP3. Maybe they removed this "feature".

Ironically, after having posted this, my upload regained its strength, uploading between 70 and 80 kB/s again. My conclusion now is that it was a coincidence.

Thanks for any tips :beerchug:

Yup, must be windows logic = no logic. Like my printer: windows still refuses to print once I turned the printer off and on again. Why? Only Bill Gates might know.
