I need to build a new PC methinks, one for Spain as my water cooled rig is heavier than all of hell, for gaming, programming and very importantly as a media center. Purpose:
I need:
Software compliance I require:
Now I don't necessarily have to/want to build it myself but I am more than capable; so if there's an off the shelf thing then by all means show me some linkage! |

I'm interested in making my new box more quite too. It must be one of those fans. |

I don't have really fast PCs, but they are quiet.
big fans at low RPM is the easiest way to reduce noise. I'm using these on 2 PCs: http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.a ... 50&ID=1554 And the other has this: http://i35.tinypic.com/rc6dex.jpg If I'm not changing a PSU for a bigger one, then I just change the fans every 2 years. |

fast = heat = loud I was looking at the intel 7is, probably 6-12 GB of ram and a solid graphics card? |

I'm using this, as it is my recently bought self built PC:
I find it very quiet, but my former PC made hella noise, so maybe Im not a good example |

Is that some kind of a heat pipe? Can you use these just like that for processors? How do you mount them? |

Yes, heatpipes and it's mounted as all the "big and quiet" coolers. Almost the same as the Big Typhoon that I'm also using on my other 2 PCs. Here more pics: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cooler ... ol_19.html http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cooler ... ol_20.html http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cooler ... ol_21.html http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cooler ... ol_22.html http://www.tweakers4u.de/artikel/therma ... 5,,234.htm http://images.google.com.ar/images?q=%22sonic+tower%22 but I'm using the fan like this: http://i33.tinypic.com/wryhp3.jpg |

If you combine the heat pipes with a fan you still have the loud fan noise, don't you? |

a big fan at low RPM is VERY quiet It's one of the main concepts behind all the big/silent coolers. edit: for me very quiet is 12-16dBA |

That's indeed the downfall of most of the HTPC cases i've seen. To much lights/plastic etc. I like the OrigenAE but those are mostly to expensive for my taste/wallet |
