I bought a DVI to HDMI lead & plugged it into the 8800GTS 512mb.

On XP, using Nvidia control panel, I'm able to clone the output so it shows my desktop on the TV & then I'm able to increase the resolution so it shows at 1080i.

On Vista, I can't figure it out. I've been able to output a blank desktop to the TV whilst my current desktop with all its icons is showing on the monitor. Anyone know how to use the desktop on the TV to watch a film playing in VLC etc?

Also, how have you guys hooked up your audio?

Do I need a soundcard with SPDIF output?

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks

Can you drag a window outside your normal desktop to the left or to the right to show on the TV?

yeah, what elchupacabra said. That should be an extension of your desktop, so try dragging windows all the way to the left or right.

If you want it to clone your desktop, you might have to use a driver controller.

That worked. Thanks fellas :beerchug:

Now all I gotta do is get the audio to the TV. I bought an x-fi card yesterday & it just causes bluescreens on boot, so I'll swap it for something else. :matrix:

Well, if you want to make it simple, just use a cable like this one. You plug the 1/4 size connector in your computer's output (green hole) and put the standard RCA Red/White connector to your TV input. That should do.

But if you have a A/V Receiver, you can do what I do by using the SPDIF output with a coaxial cable and put it in your receiver, or, if you don't have any SPDIF output in your computer, you can still use the other cable and do the same.

Thanks EDI.

Optical SPDIf as I have a receiver.

Tried several soundcards now & it seems that nothing is compatible with the board, so finally upgraded to a quad q8300 & a board with SPDIF coaxial although I'm looking for the ASUS optical bracket to plug into the header on the board.

I finally found an optical bracket at a local shop although it was for a gigabyte board. I managed to take off the plug & swap it for one that fits my board & now I've got TV out with audio from the other PC.

Now I've encountered a problem. I've only got AVIs to test on it for now & if I go full screen on the monitor everything is nice & smooth... if I drag VLC over to the TV the video goes choppy.

I'm at a loss to whats causing this. I've set the nvidia control panel to 1080p/24 as thats what the TV is. I'm guessing that it must be the gfx card causing it?

BFGTech 8800GTS 512 OC
Intel Quad 8300
4GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800
Vista Ultimate x64 SP2

Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks :)
