Post subject:  Subresync doesn't work anymore

For some reason Subresync doesn't work anymore. I used this proggie to turn idx/sub files into srt files, so my standalone could read them.
But yesterday I tried to do so, and Subresync just didn't start up. I double clicked, nothing.

I uninstalled, restarted the PC, instlled gain. Result was the same. I even redownloaded Vobsub (2.23) and reinstalled that one after uninstalling the previous install. Still no action when I want to open Subresync.

I'd like to know

1) How to be able to run Subresync again
OR
2) How to turn idx/sub files into srt files in a simple manner.

Anyone have any solutions?

When you installed VobSub, did you check the box for subresync? And if you got IE8 beta installed, uninstalling it gets subresync working again (or so a google search told me).

I've always used SubRip though :)

Yes, the checkbox was checked, as all Utilities were checked. My IE version is 8.0.6001.18702

Should I uninstall that? I never use it anyway, so it won't be a problem.

Try running subresync from a command prompt and see whether it outputs anything.
Maybe check for a log-file in the folder of subresync.

Oh man, it's such a loing time ago I ever opened something with the command prompt. I'm not into DOS commands, so please tell me, how do I navigate and open stuff? I know how to open the command prompt, but after that I'm pretty much lost.

There's no such thing as logfiles in Subresync. At least, not on my PC ;)

Uninstalling IE not do the trick then?

Maybe you've installed or updated something else that's causing a conflict with it?

OK, here's what you do:
1. Open the folder in windows explorer that locates the executable SubResync file (e.g.: subresync.exe)
2. Copy the folder location into the clipboard (e.g.: C:\Programm_Files\SubResync)
3. Open the prompt (cmd.exe)
4. Enter the drive letter where the .exe is located followed by a colon (e.g.: C:) and hit enter. This is to make sure you are on the right drive
5. Enter "cd" (no quotes!) followed by a blank and copy the clipboard content, hit enter
6. Now enter the name of the executable (e.g.: subresync.exe)

This should execute the application and maybe give you some output.

Thanks for the info. When I hit enter on

C:\Program Files\etc\etc\Vobsub\subresync.exe

nothing happens. It just goes back to

C:\Program Files\etc\etc\Vobsub\

@ Junkboy: I haven't tried uninstaling IE yet, because I was asking if that was indeed the beta version (maybe my question wasn't so clear).

This is the least helpful thing that could have happened. :(
I have no idea what could be wrong, sorry.

Ah right, sorry Slayer I'm not sure to be honest. After a bit more googling though, it seems to a general problem with IE 8. So yeah, I'd unintall IE to see if it fixes it.

Nevermind, gonna try the IE uninstalling thing. Thanks for your help, it's nice to re-learn how to use DOS commands

I heard that with the next Windows, Microsoft will release a European version with optional IE. :)
