Yes, one of those would be nice, expecially since I have no idea going about converting my DivX/XviD -> SVCD...

Just bought the Lite-On LVD-2002 from PC Club up the street from me for $110 total.
Tested stuff on a Plasma wide screen tv, well just LOTR2 extended avi, put hell, it keeps 6 speaker fine, and has some funky smear effect to round blocky images.

It's a gift for my father for christmas, as he wanted the 007 series.=)

How much does an xbox cost in the us nowadays? Getting one of those chipped might be worth a look. It will play everything.

Then its a toss up between Kiss or Lite-on, I hear Kiss is a better player but I don't know. There's a few threads in the general section over at fileheaven.org if you need comparisons. use their search.

Xbox playing divx? Are you talkign about a modded version cause mine won't even play svcd's.But it does play these shitty assed compusa brand dvd's I got while my standalone refuses too. Will search...been my experience though that usually the newer stuff that comes out like this is buggy and gets outdated quick so I think I will wait for a few months till I invest in a standalone that plays divx..just don't want to get burned. :)

Was meant to be taken as one statement.

To be honest I can't think of one reason of owning a console that isn't chipped :)

Some people on FH were recommending Kiss, but they also said it had some problems, especially with divx 3. Divx 5 plays perfectly, but it can't handle smoke/fire, the picture becomes highly pixellated then. This technology is still far from being perfect, but I guess it'll get fixed soon.Anyway, if you're to buy a DVD player, it's better to have one with divx support than without it, especially that the prices are reasonable these days.

I use an xbox for all my Divx, xvid, mpg, rm, vcd,KVCD, MVCD, svcd and DVD (i'm sure there are more ;) And it works pretty much perfectly (I've come across about 3 movies it wont play out of ~1100 (which is better that my standalone DVD player, which has problems with some disney titles, amongst others )
