After Installing Norton Antivirus and Internet Security 2004 my machine is barly usable because of the immense CPU drain! I disabled checking of emule temp, to no avail.

I was thinking of just installing the 2002 version again, but remember reading somewhere about supposedly better alternatives? Less cpu drain, good protection and preferably better emule compatibility, since norton would sometimes block that too (even though I said it should not)

As I said I remember reading about this somewhere, so just a point to another topic on any donkey forum is more than enough.

I have Internet Security 2003 Pro on my machine. No problems. I knew Norton had released some new versions, and was thinking of upgrading, especially if they had added a few nice features. This cpu thing doesn't sound very good though. What are the specs on your machine?

Don't run a AV prog.

Just do a scheduled Scan, if you're to lazy to scan your system yourself.

I scan once a day and Run Sygate Pro all the time.
Have scripting Off in IE and Mozilla.

Running all that crap in the background is worthless.
Use a proxy if you're that scared.

i never run av soft in the background, i scan stuff once downloaded and do a system scan once in a while. AVG seems 2 work ok 4 me and is free!!
i run a soft firewall tho but have heard reports that the one i use is not so good, so looking into an alternative for myself atm

AVG virus scan
Kerio Firewall

low system resources and free. Seem to be the best solutions out there.

i use avg too.
it seems to be updated daily. low cpu, not had any problems with it.

i use sygate too, i like the easy adding of bad ip#'s, though sometimes it acts a little off, mostly with not asking to let certain programs or ips thru when i tell it to ask me.

ah, but i fuck around with it a lot.

as for proxy servers, that is always a very good idea in this fuzzy age of legal shit. just try to make sure the anon proxy server is actually an anonymous proxy server, instead of just a front for data collection agencies,ip harvester's, and semi-legal spamsters.
i'd try to go for southamerican ones, caiman isles, african, chinese, or ones who couldnt care less.

errm though i dont know a thing about proxies. :)

weeeheee.... After installing AVG and Keiro I remember the feeling I had when I'd bought a new cpu.

Kinda hard to know what to let Keiro allow and what to block at some times (LSA Shell - Export Version??!?!?!?) but other than that, everything is purrrrrrfect! =)

@John doe, no idea what that LSA shit is, but it seems to make no difference to me whether I allow it or not, so I do not anymore. I use Sygate Pro, obviously I never paid for it tho, thats why I have a net connection LOL

As for AVG, you really cant go wrong with that, so light on resources, altho I have it constantly running, I would panic too much if I only did a manual scan once a day or scanned new downloads.

Fro sheer comedy try installing Mcafee next along Norton virusscanner ; did this just before I was gonna reinstall my system; LOL - had manually intervene during boot ....

The two were in a complete fight - McFee, while installed afterwards, wouldn't allow Norton in

hehe,
i have a lot of different virusscanners, use pretty much every trojan/spy scanner. i dont know why, not like i have anything interesting to anybody, i just like to see what's happening.

i didnt like panda antivirus, though its easy to use.
mcaffee antivirus says almost all the 'pleasuredome' photoshop plugin keygenerator/cracks are new win32 viruses. i wonder about this because it seems random on when it says the same file is a virus. running mcaffee 10 times, 3 of the 10 times it says there is a virus, while the other 7 times no warning.

may want to try 'window washer's spy sweeper', that seem pretty good on getting rid of malicious programs/virus etc you may get from websurfing. i use it about every day.

allthough I'm very much satisfied with Kerio, there's one thing I HATE aboot it. Whenever one of those 'Permit/Deny' qurstions pop up it seams to block ALL network trafic untill I click it. Tis is DAMN ANNOYING when I've been away for a day or two and come home, eager to find out what's completed, only to find that this question popped up right after I left and not a damn byte has come in since then.

It could be a 'allow connection' question, or an 'Application is launching another app' question.. doesn't matter, it blocks everything anyways. as soon as I click either permit or deny it starts flowing again. is there a way to fix it?
