Being the lazy bastard that I am, I'd much rather go to Best Buy/Circuit City to buy a computer than to spend the time and effort in building my own (plus I want it in time for Christmas)

I was going to settle on a Dell untill I saw this thing:
DELL

It is freaking loaded! What are your opinions on computers of this brand? Either way, I think that it's a deal at the price.

Post comments!

Love,
Spazz

Oh yeah, Dell is soooooooo cheap , they'll charge you a fortune if a repair man has come by and pick your machine up !

Companies like this allways do this... Makes a thing look much more lucrative than it is.

The first thing you gotta notice with this is that it seams to be completley impossible to upgrade it. Many companies does this, to get rid of outdated parts I guess. Or in some cases you CAN upgrade it but have to buy special brands which are much more expensive and give shittier preformance.. If you wanna buy a new cpu or more ram in a year or something, you'll probably have to buy a new mainboard and tower as well, hence you're back in square one.

The graphics card is a Geforce 4 MX which sucks pretty much! It's better to get a GF 3 card than a 4MX.

No monitor included, so you'll have to buy that sepperatly anyway.

This machine is good enough to surf and watch movies now, but not play the latest games and in a year and 1/2 it will probably be almost useless...

Seriously, building your own might be a little more work, but it's worth it! Trust me.

Unless you meant to give this away to some unknowing child, who'll probably be ecstatic...?

eh, you live in the usa? i think u mentioned you did before. i always here Dell's arent too good, and i believe a lot of stories regarding all the spyware/anti copy/drm/ shit is on them. i dont have a link for the story about them, but i think it was at ;the register; or just do a search for dell+spyware.

have you tried wal-mart? if you dont want to mess around or dont know much about computers, walmart* usually has the whole basic set ups, cheap. they aim them towards people who just want all the crap in one package, students or grandmas. eh, i wouldnt buy one, but i like to take computers apart and fuck them up. walmart ones dont upgrade too well, without really tearing them apart, but they got all the little things most people want in a computer.

Best Buys usually has decent computers, better ones to tinker with.
usually a lot to choose from on all ranges of price. ive probably bought about 10 computers(not the whole setup, like cpu;s, motherboards, cases, computer pieces that add up to about 10 different computers) from best buys over the last 7 years.

circuit city usually has the fastest/more flashy computers, but the prices they sell them for are 10 times more then what they are worth.

*eh, on the other hand walmart takes out life insurance policies on it's 'older' workers, the manual labor stocker/warehouse workers without the insured knowledge, so when gramps in hauling your computer out of the warehouse and has a heart attack and dies, walmart get the money(about 200,000 dollars) not his poor widow- she doesnt even know. man, you really got admire any company that hard.

my dear paranoid monkey is correct about the spyware, but i believe that was a piece of software that came with the hardware rather than anything sinister.

My old cheap keyboard had some built into the software, and that was the same software that came with dell systems ;)

ah, just because im paranoid doesnt mean thier not out to get EVERYBODY.
i guess sinister is in your perception of what they are doing, whether it;s recording every piece of email you send or recieve, all the sites you visit, or how long you have a certain jpg image maximized on your screen, if you have no clue they're watching you, why bother being paranoid? if you have done nothing wrong, why worry if someone is catalogueing and archiving the trivial bits of information, wether for marketing purposes, credit references, or on the off chance your a terrorist. hehe, i just dont like all the stupid email and shit saying i need a bigger penis. dammit, i get that enough from the guys in the locker room.

as for eMachines, i am alway weary of the all in one packages. if you dont plan on doing much tinkering or your own types of upgrading, go with what you know. i dont know anybody with an emachine of thier own, just ones they have at thier place of employment.

DELL/emachines all the same rubbish, more than they are worth really. If you know what your doing, making your own wins hands down (or maybe hands up?)

hehe, yes, i am part of the homosexual conspiracy.
'run ronnie run' new the truth about gays.

ah, i dont care much about what info gets sent to whom, it's some of the other bullshit progs spytypes that use your computer to do thier stuff on, i think kazaa has some progs that use your cpu and hardrive for thier purposes, without your knowledge. spyware that uses your resources to do thier shit.

i think mr spazz doesnt want to build or tinker with a computer, just something he can play with as soon as possible with little effort. a all-in-one type computer is good for that, but in the long run it will become either a moneysucking blackhole to upgrade or an obsolete paperwieght.

I say either go whole hog and spend several grand on the ultimate HAL computer, buy from a local computer store, or preferably build your own paperwei... pc :)

I work for a BIG company in England that sell Emachines and they are usually reasonable......but
This one is a "definite" (please notice the correct spelling) NO NO

It's the shared video memory.... No AGP, it just will not perform on reasonable games and will slow it right down if you are showing a DVD or something and want it to do something else as well
No DVD writer...all the new ones have DVD writers !!

I wouldn't buy it - I would hang on for the January Sales
