plextor is about ?100 overpriced here, certainly doesn't justify the selling price. Its just a bit better than the pioneer 106. I was looking at the pioneer 107.

Still its lite-on and they are pretty shit for both cd-rw and dvd-rw in my experience. NEC are okay, pioneer are good, plextor are the best.

BTW, erm, how fast can you put data onto the IDE channel?

ATA133 = 133Mb/s read/write shared over 2 devices
SATA = 1.5Gb/s

We're a way off yet ;)

BTW my experience of lite-on is exactly the opposite of yours Spud, my drive has been reliable (~4000 disks burnt so far), fast and I haven't come across anything I couldn't rip/copy except TAGES and the later sucureroms.
