erm, doom isn't out for some weeks officially is it not? :) HL2 is scheduled to go gold at the end of this month.

To be fair that articles title is a bit harsh, since Doom3 has always been scheduled for release before HL2  So it was an impossibility for HL2 to come out before, unless someone turned round and said "here it is, 2 months early"

I believe what the article was getting at, is that both titles are aiming for a launch near the start of most profitable quarter, graag ;)

Doom is released tomorrow in the US and (IIRC) Friday here.

HL2 was scheduled for release in September LAST YEAR, WAY before Doom3 ;)

I dunno, Spud, you bloody Half Life Fanboys!

Yes, kick him when he's down.

Seriously, the countdown on ua-corp site shows 00:02:23:40 as ETA at this moment and HL2 will maybe catch it's September deadline - "here it is, 12 moths late" ;)

apparantly mods can be ported straight from HL --> HL2, makes sense and they are making a major thing from it... the amount of bollocks they talk about the engine and modding capabilities is probably more than the actual game itself (then again I think they are just being tight lipped about it, if you think about it, they've shown only one or two environements if that.)

No More Room In Hell is a zombie based co-op modification for Half-Life 2.
Using the full extent of the Source engine (Half-Life 2's engine), we plan
on making this mod a truly horrifying experience.

Because this is a co-operative mod, players will need to utilize unprecedented
amounts of team work if they want to survive. This means that they will really
have to think before they move or else they will pay the consequences.

Players will play new game play styles never seen before, such as "Defense".
Defense if when a small group of players must try to survive in a map by defending
the building they are in from attacks by zombies. Players will need to use their
surroundings to their advantage. This means nailing boards to walls, distracting
zombies so that the others can make their escape, and even searching entire rooms
to find items that may be essential to survival. Points will be awarded for time
alive and amount of zombies killed.

Another unique game play type will be "Extermination". In Extermination maps,
players will travel around in groups dispatching zombies and taking them to bon
fires so that they can incinerate the bodies. Points will be awarded for amount
of kills and bodies on the fire.

I personally want Halflife 2 much more. I have played Doom3 now and nothing has changed. HL2 will kick it's ass.

A post by Gabe Newell on the H2fallout.com forum has confirmed that Valve has met the, previously announced, September 15 delivery date for its Release Candidate to Vivendi. The news was confirmed by Doug Lombardi and Newell himself in order to avoid the possibility of another Fools Gold fiasco.

This news story does not, in any way, mean that Half-Life 2 has gone gold. It is extremely significant however, as the delivery of the RC means that a version of the game deemed by Valve to be fit for release is now in the publisher's hands.

Knowing the troubled history of H-L 2, it is easy to see how things may go wrong. For starters, Vivendi could reject the RC for a wide variety of reasons, more cynical reporters would suggest timing as another possible reason for an RC rejection. If that becomes the case, Valve will have to address its publishers concerns in another RC and so on.

The best case scenario involves Vivendi accepting this RC quickly which would take us to the next step, the Gone Gold announcement. One possibility is that bugs or errors discovered are allowed to remain in the game and rectified in a quick patch. Once Gold the game could (potentially) be immediately delivered to those who have already preloaded it using steam.

However uncertain, Mr. Newell's announcement marks a significant step forward in the game's development cycle and indicates that this troubled title is about to make its eager fans, very happy gamers. To join in the forum discussion follow the download tab above.

not really, they really don't like PCs for gaming in Japan from my understanding. FPS are extremely unpopular too, getting them hooked in the arcades make sense. I mean a CS box might be cool :)

I'd try and pick one up if it was cheap enough :)
You don't think it's strange that a single player game with ~10 -18 hours of gamplay is going to be made into an arcade machine???
How would you finish it??
Even assuming you had the credit to drop into it, what arcade owner is going to let one person stay on a machine for THAT long??
Also, it's very narrative driven from what I can see, which wouldn't work well at all in an arcade.

it will be counter strike primarily most likely... the club in town has Xbox Live Rainbow Six for net play, and also has the single player game. That's not strange at all. For clarification, the multiplayer part of HL2 is counter strike (they are considered the same game)

You can enjoy the game alone in the story mode, or you can team up with players in other arcades, via network connection, to play cooperatively.

Not everyone sits and plays all the way through these arcade games. Nice to see co-op, a port to the pc will be greatly appreicated.
