I just recently tried the new mpg-4 codec from Nero called "Nero Digital" and I love it.
Man this codec encodes freaking amazingly fast and with no noticeable or distracting compression artifacts.
I encoded a dvd to ND in 50mins (each pass) keeping 5.1 dolby surround and subs!
This is so freaking amazing the file result is as big as any Divx or Xvid with a 80% better compressed quality.
I was playing the file for a friend who thought the scorce was from the actual DVD, his mouth dropped when he found out it was ND.

Damn this codec is fantastic and I hope It really catches on.

The downfall atm is the fact of the support, it is relatively new.
Atm you can only play these files using Nero's Showtime player, It doesn't play in Zoom or WMP.
I really hope that more support becomes available for this new codec.

Has anyone else tried it?

if its mpeg-4, firmware should be able to sort out compatability problems on lots of players I'd have thought. Xbox will have it in the bag too, but as a PC guy here, very interested.

ed2k: Nero.6.3.1.6.+.Vision.2.1.2.0.+.InCD.4.1.5.10.+.Nero.Media.Player.1.4.0.20.+.Nero...oMix.1.4.0.2.rar  [116.72 Mb] [Stats]

So your saying you've produced a 700mb Nero Digital re-encode that's better than xvid/divx? Can you take some screenshots in nandub please, I'd love to see the quality.

From one of those sites, looks like a 1cd re-encode of LOTR: TT i think

When we played the created file with Nero ShowTime we were actually very surprised with the produced quality. When you think of the fact that the original DVD movie was over 7GB in size and the created .MP4 file is less than 700MB you would expect the movie quality to be very poor. This was not the case! Below we've taken some screenshots in which you can see that the picture is of very decent quality. The quality was not as good as the original DVD but as said, when you compress a movie to 10% of its original size you're bound to sacrifice some quality.

When you are an experienced video encoder and you know what all the settings mean in both the DivX and the XViD coded you will be able to produce excellent quality encoded movies, probably better quality than when using the default settings like we did. However keeping in mind the average user, the default settings should give a user a decent quality movie. Because of the quality of its output and its speed, Nero Digital could become a major competitor to DivX and XViD. Besides that, Nero Digital has a lot of standard options that, for now, are only possible with the other codecs using third party software.

We asked DivX Networks for a reaction on our test results and if the company was planning to tweak its standard settings. The company told us it could not comment on our results but was awaiting our article with big interest.

Nero Digital will also be available for Consumer Electronics (CE) which means that CE manufacturers are able to license Nero Digital to use it in their products. An example of this could be a DVD player that plays Nero Digital content, just like a DivX Certified device. More information about Nero Digital can be found on http://www.nerodigital.com. Please discuss Nero Digital in our Nero Recode Forum. We are very interested in your testresults when using standard and non-standard settings.

and yes the screenshots are badly choosen, and sometimes even not from the same scenes... someone taking some screenshots of something very bright would have been better.

I'm having trouble getting the damn thing cracked. I've tried several times, I load up Recode 2 and click DVD to Nero Digital, but it says crap about multi-channel dolby digital and then doesn't go any further.

Nero really does love bloated shit, i'm trying this:
ed2k: nerodvd_plug-ins..MPEG-2.DVD..MPEG-2.SVCD..Dolby.Digital.AC-32.0.rar  [8.20 Mb] [Stats]

Grabbed the newest version o this, and I gotta say I am well impressed with the showtime player.

Plays movies str8 from bin files better than VLC, also has slightly less cpu and memory usage than BSPlayer, gonna keep trying it to see how it all works out.
