There's a sticky topic in Help with codecs and players.

However:
  • Media Player Classic - Not windows or anything to do with microsoft. It was designed to be the best lightweight, high performance, high feature player. It does that and more. Should be on everyones system (plus it can play .rm + .mov which is a bonus. It can also choose any subtitles even if they don't match the file name and play external and muxed secondry audio internally (ie. no extra programs needed).
  • Zoomplayer - My preference in the top class (this vs. BSplayer). It beats BS in terms of interface, customability and features. BSplayer is slightly less on performance and lacks as many features, but makes up for with slightly less system usage.
  • BSplayer. See above.
  • PowerDVD. Install for the codecs (sound and video), then use zoomplayer to play DVDs (zoomplayer steals components from other players ;) )

I'd personally install media player classic as your lightweight, double click and enjoy player, Zoomplayer (and powerdvd) as your DVD and heavy duty player.

Subtitles, Vobsub need directvobsub installing.

I have Irfanview, WMP, BSPlayer, VLC, Koala Player, MPC and Zoomplayer installed. If I can't play a file correctly I get annoyed!

BSPlayer gets used the most though.

Theyre all the same if you ask me.. as long as they play what u want to see! But for subtitles PowerDVD as spud suggest in 2nd message.. which also play DVD and MPEGs. And of course Media PLayer Classic to view my unfinished eMule downloads to check if they fake .

/me use default WMP that come with Winblows.

I use BSPlayer most of the time, I have MediaPlayerClassic for real and quicktime shit, PowerDVD for, er, DVD's.

I also use PowerDVD for MPG's sometimes. I hate to say but for me Media Player 10 is pretty relible and uses few resources, but I am just in the habit of using other players now. :matrix:
