That'd be cool if Sega came back.
There were a lot of cool fighting games for Dreamcast.

I have no doubt that M$ will do everything in their power to rid themselves of their competition.

But then...I hate everything that's even associated with M$, which is yet another reason I hate Xbox. You know, I hear that's why M$ got into the Console biz in the first place. They heard that newer consoles would give people Internet Access.

Sega shouldn't make a console again, they are just like nintendo, except the really don't have outstanding first party games and are doomed to failure accordingly.

I'm a tad confused though, you won't buy nintendo because you think they are disney and then say you'd buy Sega? Sega put at just as many family games as nintendo, only difference is Nintendo's are normally pretty good and sell a lot of copies, whereas Segas appeal to about 1/4 of the userbase and only occasionally sell a lot of titles. And by cool fighting games, I assume you mean Soul Calibre?
Beyond a couple of games they really do have a weak lineup imo, they are much better off multiconsole. Okay they loose money on licensing but they sell a lot more copies. Soul Calibre is cool, but nothing that really wants me to go out a buy a console by them.

IMO, it would be a really bad idea for sega to make another console. It will flop badly like their last two (3? Game gear died pretty horribly too...)

I understand where your coming from, but personally, brand loyality is gay imo. I don't dislike m$ in anyway that involves shunning a perfectly good console, and I don't like sega's games enough to justify buying one of their consoles again. I don't particularly care about nintendo beyond the fact that consistantly put out zelda games which are always my favourites by a furlong, and nostalgia of course

Oh and I forgot to post:

I don't want innocent Disney-world-esque games like the newest Zelda and etc.

Oh and here's the newest zelda:

I own all three "current" consoles, as well as a number of older ones including Dreamcast N64 etc and the CLASSIC games are always found on Nintendo's consoles in every generation.

Super Mario World on the SNES is 2d Platform Perfection
Mario 3d on the N64 is the same but in 3d
Zelda in ANY iteration is cool :)

TBH I agree with the Xbox comments with 2 Exceptions

1) Where a game is available on both Xbox and PS2 the game will ALWAYS look better on the Xbox
2) An Un-modded Xbox is a waste of time, however a modded Xbox fulfills 2 functions
a) It enables XBMC to run, which is THE best standalon Divx (etc) player money can buy
and
b) You never have to buy any games then as you can pirate them all, M$ lose money on every console ergo the best way to hurt M$ is to buy Xbox's and NEVER buy a game or peripheral for it

TBH irrational hatred of M$ isn't as much fun these days, their products have got better and their customer service is second to none. Blind hatred of M$ is pretty stupid TBH, it would be more sensible to make a decision based on your needs and desires and see which product fulfills those criteria. BTW drpoopypants I assume you don't run windows am I right?

If you step back and make an INFORMED purchasing decision, I cannot see why you would choose PS2's, sure there's a lot of games, as there were alot on the PS1, BUT 90% of them are shit and the 10% that aren't shit are multiformat anyway or rip offs of better games on other consoles.

As for Sega, I can take or leave most of their games, with the exception of the superb Super Monkey Ball (currently a Gamecube Exclusive)

oh yeah, PS2 is the worst architecture of all three... its also custom vs. ATI and we all know ATI have put out all the best snizzel this year

PS2 got those exclusives down to a tee though, GTA:SA was a good investment. Personally, if were to get one of the two, it would be a Xbox... as i said i never played the ps2, but with a box i'd use it as a xvid player all the time

you can mod a ps2 also with ...

network adapter, 120gb hd,mod chip, use mouse/keyboard....

you can play ps1/ps2 games, dvdr -/+/rw, cdr/cdrw....

you have linux, hdloader, divx player, dvd player, emulators and much more.....

and everything of software/games you can download for free on the internet

the best thing you can play online for free and you dont get banned if you are unlucky and press the wrong buttons....

thats the good thing about ps2....

If you want to run linux, get a PC

I'm well aware of the fact that OLDER PS2's (i.e not the new slimline one) can be modded with all that, but how much does it all cost for one? ?149 + tax which is more than the xbox and linux for that is free :)

and for 2,

you still have only one or two emulators (IIRC only NES at full speed), no decent media player all running on the same ancient architecture with virtually no ram whatsoever.

Linux on the PS2 is a curio more than anything IMHO

Which is fair enough, but why the PS2?

For ~?300 euros you could build a low end PC for linux or buy 2 xbox's and run linux, both would give you a damn site more memory and be far more flexible :)

The PS2 has 32Mb of unified ram, which IIRC only around 4Mb is available at any one time for the system (the rest going on GFX etc), which is why there are no decent emulators or Divx players

The Xbox has 64Mb of ram with ~40Mb being available to program in / use as well as having the ability to use swap files thereby rending the memory argument pointless :) which is why it does have a fair amount of emus and ither USEFUL utils

I don't think brand loyalty is so gay. Like...say Intel comes out with something new next week that's supposed to be all amazing and crap, right?
I'm naturally going to be highly suspicious. However, I would be much more trusting in regards to an AMD release. I would, of course, review specs and etc before I purchased, but I would have a definite aversion right from the start away from the Intel.

Same with M$. I'm sorry to say that yes, I run XP Pro. I didn't pay for it, however, so it's not like I'm supporting M$ by running it. To run an Xbox, however, I'd have to support the bastards by buying an Xbox.

Oh...and in regards to games. I've never been really interested in consoles, and I don't own any consoles. What makes me want to have a Playstation 2 is the fact that GTA San Andreas is already out for PS2, and it won't come out for PC for another 5 months at least. That gripes my ass somethin fierce, but whatever.

So in regards to games I'm fully willing to admit that my opinion is formulated based on a very small, prejudiced sample of the small number of games I've played for each console. Of which the PS2 games were all better, IMO, than the Gamecube or Xbox games.

I don't know. Part of me wants a PS2 just for the GTA series and the Final Fantasy series. I really enjoy those games, and there's nothing out for Xbox or Gamecube that I enjoy as much. Or at least nothing I've played.

And I agree with Spud when he says that Sega won't release another console. They've gotten their asses reamed so many times before in that department that it would just be a bad decision. However, I remember long nights of playing Soul Calibre and Crazy Taxi back in the day with a friend of mine who had a Dreamcast, and that was damn fun.

So yeah...don't listen to me. I'm probably never actually going to buy a console again anyway, unless something REALLY impresses me. I like saving my limited funds for PC upgrades.

P.S. ATI is da shiznit.
