Kerio, the old free one. If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

The only thing better than that is a hardware firewall.

Still using Sygate here - V5.5 build 2616. Old yes, but seems to be working very well.

install Sygate FW, open it, press tools, update signature to newest version and you are up to date.

I am still using Kerio PF v2.xx, but I can't say I am happy with it. It's just that it's better than the rest, but definitelly not perfect. I especially hate the lack of control over applications using other applications to connect to the internet (e.g. an application "Trojan Horse XYZ" could run Internet Explorer and ask it to download http://www.trojanauthorspage.com/addres ... pass=12345). But as I said, the other firewalls (including KPF 4) are even worse - they fail at the actual filtering level (they don't let me mix system and application rules, for example). The only firewall that stands a chance of replacing KPF2 is Jetico PF, but for some reason I was unable to configure it correctly (the rules were correct as far as I can tell, but they never got triggered...)

Really old thread I know, but I'm still using the same version of Sygate I mentioned above. I really think I should change to comodo or something else by now, but I've still not had any problems. Any thoughts?

Sygate rocks

If I was still using a 32bit OS that would be my personal choice. Unfortunately it wont work on a 64bit OS

Symantec bought out Sygate & closed them down, so there wont ever be a newer version... bastards :matrix: :prat:

Give Comodo a try and tell me what you think. I used it a few months ago and it performed well. Thinking of trying it again soon.

:googley:

Thought it was the cause of some issues I was having. I uninstalled it. It wasn't the cause. I currently do not have one installed...

Or

It crashed my computer constantly. I had to dive into the registry to clean it up. Finally I ended up having to reformat. They say they have fixed the problems, but I want to be sure. Be my guinea pig... be their victim.

psst... go with the former

 Dodgy bloke :outsider:

I've only got the windows firewall & the one built into the router on this as all the XP64bit compatible firewalls need you to be qualified for Mensa to set up :wacky:

lol @ windows firewall; router one is enough for me too. Stealth all ports is all that's needed. You can operate without but your bandwidth will be wasted with responses, better just to drop packets on an invalid port so I wouldn't agree with the wargand philosophy of responding to invalid requests myself.

Thanks all the same karst, but I'll stick with Sygate after your experiences with Comodo. I don't wanna be a Guinea Pig :googley:
