Yeah, it affects all xboxs manufactured prior to Jan. 13, 2004 in europe and 2003 in the US  (which incidentally is 3/4 of M$ userbase).

Mind you, for the more paranoid amongst you heres some thoughs

1) Pre release Xbox360 bumph, what better way to get the name and address of pretty much EVERY current Xbox user to target them for the sequel

2) (and rather more insidious) Could it possibly tie the Eeproms (which contains your Serial number) that have been banned from Xbox Live to an address, thereby letting m$ know EXACTLY who's chipped their consoles?

Unlikey IMHO, but certainly possible ;)

lol, read this in the newspaper. Nintendo had the same problem with their leads for the N64, but not on this scale!! I think they might have used the same plant that m$ has done back then.

Nintendo also offered a huge dicount on games when it was revealed their power packs were unsafe on some consoles; I got 1080 for ?10 back when its rrp was ?44.99 in exchange for the inconvience of returning the plug.

I didn't read anything about compensation, are they offering a similar reward for their disservice? It would be appauling if they don't offer any such insentive, particularly when I read you send them your power plug and for their mistake, your rewarded with a 4 to 6 week waiting time for a replacement plug....

If they don't give you any reward, its a huge disservice to the customer.

I dont know where you read that you send them the plug, that isn't the case.

You carry on using the potentially lethal one for 4-6 weeks until a lovely new safe one turns up

ah right, well in the metro it said, you send them your plug and they send you a replacement in 4 to 6 weeks.

Same was with nintendo actually, you just contacted them, then they mailed you this list of games. Surely m$ should do likewise?

Should, but won't.
