Team Ninja has reportedly the first ever Wii modchip up their sleeves. The 5 wire modification will play Wii and GC backups of the SAME region, and is expected to retail for around 35 euro's. As you can see from the pictures below, its a simple looking mod and should be easy to install.

Its looking increasingly likely that the modchip is not a fake.

Problem is, and i'd give out a warning on this, is that it is made by a group called Team Ninja who are notorious for crappy quality mod chips. It seems to be based upon the sample drive firmware exploit that was released a while back. I'd wait for a generation 2 modchip before buying, I'm holding out for the softmod myself.

On the mii front, I've got Charlie Manson and am trying to get Dr Death (Harold Shipmen) and a few others... :)

When it rains, it pours... another mod chip is out:
http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=13934
Quote:
- Quicksolder (no wires required)
- Plays Wii Backups
- Plays GC Backups
- Play GC Homebrew
- Play GC Imports (swap needed)
- Built-in Audiofix (GC games using streaming are working flawlessly, no patch needed)
- DVD-R / DVD+R support
- Optional chip disable wire
- Stealth even when chip is enabled
- Multi-purpose LED

This time, its decent... well decent-er :))

Looks like there's two revisions of the wii drive, one doesn't work with the modchips (all of them i think) but is quite rare.

The rehashes and ports continue by the looks... Resident Evil 4 is being updated for the wii, although it will be the best looking version yet i'm not quite sure what the point is.

You never played resident evil 4?

Spoiler:
Umbrella died inbetween RE3 and 4, due to the Raccoon City "incident"... they then sold all their assets to insane people

Infact, the the umbrella chronicles game will be zombies, whilst RE 5 will likely not have them again... unless they are brought back due to popular demand. It was a controversial step, getting rid of zombies, but RE4 proved that it was a choice that didn't go unfavourably for the franchise :)

So any of you guys actually have a Modded wii (with wiikey)? I've got some spare cash coming mid October and really want to get one, but having troubles deciding/getting info. I've found a couple of euro websites that sell pre modded wii's for around £250-£300. Is that the best bet or is it better to grab a console your self buy the chip and DIY it? I've no experience soldering etc though

Can't really find any one UK based that can chip or sells pre mods

Just wanted some thoughts on how any of you went about grabbing a wii chip

one of the guys at work his getting his modded for ~£40 in bradford. all mods require soldering, but you can get "solderless" chips... essentially you just heat the connectors and the solder that is on the connectors will do the work. Easy.

I haven't got mine modded, which is a good thing because i need to send it back for repairs,

btw, it is illegal to chip a console in the uk:
http://digital-lifestyles.info/2004/07/ ... in-the-uk/
hence why its not as common as it once was

Yeah I figured that about UK. I really want to pick up a wii with wiikey pre modded, so looks like I'll have to grab one from a euro console site for £250+ then!

They appear on ebay but unless it's buy it now....ebay just delete the auction

Just wanted to make sure there wasn't some reliable site selling wii pre mods at a decent price I was missing

So Spud you're not interested in modding your wii when it's returned?

as a lazy bitch, i still haven't sent mine back for repair, but will be doing this week i think since warranty is nearly up.

BTW, looks like all drive chip owners are screwed, mario galaxy is the first game to detect drive chips:

* Super Mario Galaxy has been confirmed to detect current Drivechips. As theorized here on Wiili, detection is easily accomplished and something Nintendo could have done for a long time. More info here.
