What sucks is what is apparently acceptable!! I've just checked the guide for this new monitor, and the criteria is appalling for dead pixels - I calculate they can get away with about 8 in total before I can expect any recompense. Whilst this is annoying, it is only a monitor, but think of a laptop - I have 2 (neither of which have any dead pixels) - but imagine forking out ?1500 on a laptop knowing you can't return it because of the 'dead pixel policy', which they all enforce to one degree or other.
It's like buying a new car - "oh yeah it only has 3 scratches on it, it is within our accepted scratch policy, tough" Not likely.

Even if they don't guarantee there will be no dead pixels, you can just choose the one that hasn't got any. You can just ask them to connect it for you in the shop and if you see a dead pixel, you tell them you won't buy it. Also, it is now becoming more and more common that the producer guarantees 100% working pixels.
