Just wanting to know for any future releases:

What do you guys think about h264, should I keep with Xvid or upgrade(?) to h264?

I say because i've been getting a lot of anime recently that is encoded with h264, but the codec doesn't seem to be used anywhere outside of anime. So I just wanted to know some peoples opinions on the matter before I start releasing in h264.

Way too early to start using this codec for releasing movies. Its still really early buggy alpha, there's little to know standalone support and its very limited and lacks advanced features.

Keep an eye on it because its nice, but its not really so much of an upgrade atm.

Its good for low bitrates mind you.

OK, i'll stay with Xvid for the time being.

I only asked because it took me about a week to get the thing to decode, but when I did the quality was very nice.

Yes, the quality is great, infact it is not only a part of Gknot encoder now, but beat Xvid in the standard Doom9 quality tests.

As soon as it gets out of alpha, it deserves a lot of interest :)

yep, it's a great codec
problem is you need a powerful pc to decode it
i'll certainly start using it when it becomes stable !
