Last House On The Left: I had already watched House on the Edge of the Park and these two movies are quite similar, although I think the Argento movie is the better one.

i preferred house on the edge of the park

So we agree.

Yesterday I watched "Planet Terror" in the theater and it blew me away! It's an ace zombie movie and everybody should see it! The movie has everything: lots of zombies, lots of blood and gore, lots of explosions and lots of sexy babes!

i saw this for the first time this afternoon. it was pretty awesome. great quickrky pseudo-horror, even though the two main characters seemed to be incredibly stupid and always make the moves that would obviously land them in deeper and deeper shit, which kind of made the enemy seem extra defeatable. also, the fight (wrestling?) scene between the main character and his buddy was hillariously drawn out, especially since they were fighting over whether the guy would try on a pair of sunglasses or not. it made me wonder if piper had some clause in his contract that said he had to do X amount of wrestling moves in the movie or something. haha.

i've seen very little carpenter, so i've been trying to check out all the supposed classics. i saw Escape from New York last night, and it was pretty killer, although i still think i like one or two select italian rip-offs better (castellari's 1990: Bronx Warriors, especially).

I've always thought it was a good flick.

Ah, They Live. I have that also, but didn't watch it yet. I'll check it out sooner or later.

@ grampaseth: if you want some old school horror from Carpenter, check out Halloween, The Fog and The Thing.

Also, Assault on Precinct 13 (1976) is a very good movie, albeit not a real horror as some people told me (I haven't seen this one myself yet, but I heard many good things about it). It's a cult classic according to many people.

The last movies I saw were:

Napoleon - a mini series of 4 movies, each 90 mins long about the life of Napoleon. Very well made and interesting. Not really exciting in the story, but that's always the case with historical movies.

Shadow: Dead Riot - hilarious movie about a women's prison. This movie turns into a completely different story halfway, somewhat like From Dusk Till Dawn. I loved it! I can recommend this movie to everyone here.

Shaun of The Dead - not a big zombie movie fan but this i think you can name it a zombie movie was great :D

and for midnight action die hard 4.0 i would like to try jumping on a flying jet, would be great dont you think?

Equilibrium - quite a nice scifi movie, although it has leaned pretty heavily on "1984" and "The Matrix".

Halloween, The Fog, and The Thing are actually the only other Carpenter movies i've seen. haha. they seemed like the only ones i would really be interested in.

Halloween i've only seen once, but i really didn't care for it at all... i know that seems kind of blasphemous, as most serious horror fans hold it high above shitty teen-aimed US slashers like Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th. i certainly liked it better than those series', but it was still too slashery for me. i love gialli, but slasher territory is something i tread very lightly. i really need to watch it again, at least for carpenter's Goblin-influenced score people seem to mention so often.

They Live was also pretty great. fun action/horror alien/contamination story. really well cast with Russel at the forefront.

as for The Fog...

i actually watched that yesterday for the first time. it was just as rad as i had hoped. Storywise and atmospherically, it felt very Fulci influenced, except with the signature Carpenter cinematography in place of the signature Fulci cinematography. the gore was also very weak compared to Fulci near the top of his game, but i'll more than forgive Carpenter for not being Italian. really a lot of cool atmosphere and some unique evil forces/bad guys that is a welcome change from straight ghost or zombie movies. speaking of Fulci, as much as i applaude Carpenter for scoring his own films, the music was really pretty mediocre, and with a Fabbio Frizzi score (maybe something along the lines of City of the Living Dead), The Fog would probabaly have kicked even more ass.

I thought the title song of "The Fog" was simple, but great. Oh, btw: "Village of the Damned" is also pretty OK, but "Vampires" and "Ghosts of Mars" are really misconceptions.

Oh, and "Christine" is a masterpiece!
