I remember that people were doing top ten lists by decade and the 90s were difficult for everyone. So, I thought I'd just throw this one out there.

For me, there are only 4 truly great, scary movies from the 90s.

Ringu
Scream
Candyman
The Blair Witch Project

My choice is Ringu.

My mind has run dry. Prob 'cos I'm up at 6am on a Sunday.

Some good choices, apart from Scream which is just an unscary penis of a film.

Event Horizon is my number one for that period, I'll have to meditate on the rest

I can't think of many titles from the 90s. Some suggestions done here are quite good, like Ringu and Scream (which wasn't meant to be scary, but is a good spoof on journalism). Braindead and Army of Darkness are among my favourites of all times.

Now I'm thinking of it, I like Bram Stoker's Dracula.

I'll add more titles later.

Event Horizon is very nice. See, I wouldn't have thought of this movie so there are probably hundreds of others I can't come up with until I see them somewhere. :?

What about...

- Nightbreed
- Stephen King's It
- Stephen King's Misery
- Stephen King's The Stand
- Leprechaun 1
- Ju-on
- Maniac Cop 2 (because of the Paula Trickey strip )
- In The Mouth Of Madness
- Wes Craven's New Nightmare

I stumbled upon Cube as being from the 90s. I liked that when I watched it the first time. Same goes for It.

90's sucked. Like really really suck.

Ringu. Scream.

Christ on a bike.
Standards have dropped the last years haven't they now :P

Mouth of madness comes to mind as a lone, dimm candle of quality.
And that's coming from a Carpenter-critic.

I guess candyman, ravenous and braindead should be noted.

But movie-wise I'm trying to forget the 90's thnakyouverymuch.

I disagree with Geezus quite a bit, i think it would be s a rather shallow scan of the decade to say there was nothing in the 90s... there's some brilliant films:

Riget I & II
Braindead
Delicatessen
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
Event Horizon
Candyman
Gremlins 2
In the Mouth of Madness
Ravenous
Army of Darkness
Ringu

All f*cking fantastic films for very different reasons, ravenous was superb, candyman is five star, braindead is a genre topper, army of darkness is a cult classic. Ringu revitalised the entire genre; twin peaks was a brilliant movie in its own right, Lars Von Trier's Riget mini-series was excellent.

There's also some utter, utter shite though that clouds it all... Scream and the Shit wanky blair project spring to mind as overrated and rather shitty films. The entire decade is devalued so often by people claiming these films as something worth mentioning. There was some good stuff in the 90s, ignore this crap. There's also some stuff people either like or don't like from the decade, stuff like Demon Knight, Blade, sleepy hollow, nightmare before christmas, etc. as more popularist movies people enjoyed. Not my cup of tea always but hell its there, frankly looking at the list of those movies its quite insulting for the 90s to be brushed over. The real problem is the complete over-indulgence in a birrage of shite through the 80s, in addition to the genious that crashed the entire friggin genre. if it wasn't for key titles in the 90s, horror would still be dirt and we wouldn't have the fantastic new titles we got since the 00s kicked in.

There was also some great tv series that everyone forgets too; Twin Peaks, X-Files, Millenium, Riget.

Reading this post back before hitting submit, it really isn't without merit in any horror guide, there's some very, very note worthy stuff. The problem is that the 80s crashed the genre and these films not only had to be fantastic, they had to be original and creative to bring it back from the gutter.

My 2cents anyway :)

Must.
Resist.
Taking.
Potshots.

With a smug I say again : The 90's , horrorflicks wise, were a travesty.
Sure - I agree. A lot of experimenting was done.

So few of it , IMO ,succeeded though. That's where I seem to differ with most of you.
