Well, it can't be any worse than the last two films. Which were shite.

Anyway, have a peek if you want:

I'm a little confused here. Did the series move to CG? Or is
this a separate franchise?

Music is pretty shite so at least its authentic

I'm reserving my judgement because its Asian animation and those tend to be horrendously shit or quite good, and rarely anything in between

I didn't mind the first one. Or at least parts of it.

Shite, but the closer to the games in feel than the sequels.

closer? Having played all of the games (barring one of the outbreaks), I can say with utmost certainty that the first Resident Evil movie was pretty much nothing like any of the games I have personally played through to completition.

There were no plot similarities, no character similarities and the most important part for me, absolutely no tone, art design, content or setting similarities.

The only thing it did was repeatedly name drop things like umbrella, and cast doubt on whether anyone involved in the project had actually played any of the games

That in itself didn't make it a bad movie, nor would i argue that. I'd just say since it was crap all of its own accord, it then had no personal associations for me making it a failure of a film :(

I've been let down by all but core franchise games, and even then I'd argue that only Resident Evil 1 (rebirth is the best take on that!), 2 and 4 have been overly worthwhile instalments.

We'll see how the animated one goes anyway, I would prefer a more gothic, and ultimately more horror-driven real life movie, but since a company full of corporate lackies and stooges have the IP its unlikely to happen.

Shame the romero movie fell through really.

It was on purpose that the resident evil movie(s) have nothing to do with the game itself. I have seen an interview with the writer / directer (dunno whom it was actually) and he said this:

"We intentionally have changed characters and character names and the story so that the people can not tell right from the start who is going to survive the whole thing. We left the background story and the plot".

I think this was not a so bad idea at all. I only played the first game and I know that the first movie missed Jill Valentine (who appeared in part 2 of the movie) and the other STARS members as well. But I enjoyed all of them.

Anyway, this is my opinion and the information I wanted to share with you guys. Peace!

Yeah, fair point and true enough. But it's more than the other two films did. Don't get the wrong idea, it's not ever gonna be in my top 10, 50 or 100 films, but we all have our guilty pleasures.

Same goes for the games. Whilst No2 & 4 are amoungst my faves of all time, I've enjoyed aspects of all of them that I've played.

You're certainly right about it needing to go ALOT more horror.
