Anyone here read Chuck Palahniuk? His books give me a chuckle and a shudder, some very grotesque and others are just so strange I have to re-read paragraphs to make sure I got it right.

He's not a horror author like King or Koontz, but his stories creep me way more than either of those have ever. So far I've read Choke, Invisible Monsters, Haunted, and Lullaby. I read a little of Fight Club, but didn't pick it up yet because I couldn't find the edition without the movie adverts all over the cover.

I suggest and recommend you read him, some of it can give a huge change of perspective. And also maybe I like him because he makes me feel that my writing isn't so poor (in a 'you have to write by-the-book' way, which I always found boring and pointless).

So do any Dead-donkeys read his stuff? Any Chuck P fans?

yes, I've read Fight Club, Survivor and Invisible Monsters. There's a lot of angst, black humour and warped people in his books to really appeal to a lot of people.

Trying to find time to read Haunted but just can't find the time.

I honestly think survivor is the better novel, despite fight club being a great book and a great film.

Shame what happened to the film production, what with September 11th grounding any film with a plane crash. Really hope it ends up getting made.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survivor_% ... adaptation

Quote:
When the film rights to "Survivor" were first sold, no movie studio was willing to commit itself to adapting the novel. This was due to the fact that the protagonist of the novel hijacks a civil airplane and crashes it into the Australian outback. After the attacks on The Pentagon and World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 the movie studios apparently deemed the novel too controversial. However, by early 2005 the project had been revived,[2] and during his book tour for Rant Palahniuk announced that Survivor would start filming in December 2007.

Yes I hope to read that one soon. I think I've enjoyed Lullaby the most so far. Although Choke is very funny, and Haunted is deeply disturbing. I honestly don't his stuff translates well to film, despite how good Fight Club is!

I had a signed hardback copy of Haunted, I think sold it but I may have it somewhere. Never really got into his stuff but I have a few audiobooks.

Fight Club, Choke, and Diary. I really enjoyed them. Thanks for bringing it up as I've been meaning to read more.

Wow the new choke movie looks like worthless NBC crap!

I hate directors and their ghey ass 'visions' of ruining others work.

I have not read Fight Club, but the movie was pretty much "crap à la carte".

Seriously, you didnt like Fight Club?

Wow.

Why?

Also, and this is ONLY based on the preview I saw, Choke looks like its going to be great.

Subjective - always...
