Looking for some 70's suggestions.

I've already seen and been impressed by the following:

The Shining (was made in the 70's *favorite all time)
The Exorcist (brilliantly directed)
The Omen (top 20)
The Changeling (made in the 70's * total creepfest is in my top 10)
Legend of Hell House (not as scary now, but deserves a spot)
Dawn of the Dead (groundbreaking)
Jaws (why do people think this was scary?)
Carrie (great but so played now)
Don't Look Now (good but overrated)
The Amityville Horror (actually got spooked by this despite reviews)
Black Christmas (that caller man..)
Halloween (pioneer - nuff said)
Friday the 13th (made in the 70's and another pioneer)
Suspiria (one of my top 20)
Deep Red The Hatchet Murders (loved it, if only for a few great moments)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (maybe 2nd favorite all time)
Salem's Lot
The Last House on the Left (raw)
Martin
The Brood (another favorite)
The Wicker Man (far better than the remake)
EDIT: Add Phantasm to this list as it was one of the few i forgot to mention seeing

With probably a few more I forgot, but I'm looking for suggestions for anything left from the 70's that might keep me from sleeping soundly later.

friday the 13th is an 80s film, and although popular I'm not sure i'd call it a pioneer. nothing in there I'd never seen.

What's wrong with the other cronenbergs?
Shivers (1975)
Rabid (1977)

I enjoyed them.

Rabid was kind of silly, Shivers I haven't seen but now plan to (thx). With Friday the 13th, and The Shining, they were both 1980, so I thought I'd play those safe as they were both likely made in 79. When I say pioneer with regards to Friday the13th, nothing else preceding that comes to mind when I think of the bleak, desolate haunting campground /forest environment, (Deliverance notwithstanding). When slashers and forests are married, the sense of hopelessness is underscored. I suppose you could argue Last House on the Left was "Slasher in Forest", but I never really had that campground vibe until Friday The 13th.

EDIT: I would also add that The Changeling was 1980, and should have been on my list as well. As it was a vastly underrated, often overlooked horror, that no one will want to be watching alone.

Superb list there, Truba. Well done. A lot of gems in here I had forgotten, and many I undoubtedly need to see. Burnt Offereings, When a Stranger Calls, Crazies, Dunwich Horror, and Deranged (can't believe I forgot this) were all excellent, and some need to be revisited. The rest I'm looking to download or buy pronto.

When I was a kid I couldn't watch MASH. The operating room scenes messed me up something fierce...but I was fascinated with horror films/TV shows. I wonder if it was the reality of it. These were doctors trying to save a life, not a monster or masked killer trying to end the lives of people who never learned to run correctly.

To this day, it still takes a near death experience to get me into a hospital or doctor's office. But I have a fairly extensive collection of mondos. It's strange the way the mind works.

When I saw this thread, I thought I could help, but I think Truba pretty much covered it.
