I was thinking we could all list our top 10 favorite Zombie movies and then discuss the merits of each film mentioned. Then we could compare and contrast upon our lists. I guess i will go first because it is my topic. Here we go...

10) Return of the Living Dead (1985) Dan O' Bannon
I found this movie to be a great homage to the original classic and at the same time I found it to be a hilarious romp of a movie. This pseudo-Sequel is fun and great because of its campy 80s humor/horror style.

9) Diary of the Dead (2007) George Romero
I felt that with this movie, George Romero was truly back to form with his "Living Dead" series. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and found it to be far superior to the previous "Land of the Dead" in every way. It was every thing that "Land" wasn't and that is why I liked it, it was a classic style zombie film that also found a way to keep a humorous perspective.

8 ) Planet Terror (2007) Robert Rodriguez
I loved this movie, it was an amazing throwback of a film. It exuded all of the campy awesome things that made all of the grindhouse films so much fun. I loved this movie through and through, I mean melting body parts and insane military zombies, what is not to love?

7) 28 Days Later (2002) Danny Boyle
Danny Boyle is a very good director and I believe that he did an excellent job giving the Zombie genre his own little spin. I enjoy this movie alot but find it unfair because of the un-godly unnatural speed of the zombies. A Great Zombie movie that revitalized the then lagging horror sub-genre.

6) Night of the Living Dead (1968) George Romero
The original zombie gore movie, without this little gem other zombie movies wouldn't be the way they are today. This movie changed the horror genre for the better and is still a classic to this day. It also is stark and telling political commentary about the United states in the 60s.

5) The Beyond (1981) Lucio Fulci
As far as Zombie movies that are trippy go this one is by far the best ever. I must admit that this is my favorite (zombie) film that I have seen by Lucio Fulci as well. The gore in the death scenes of this movie were just so over the top and so much fun. The bleak ending was just the icing on the top of a very nasty and awesome cake for me. I genuinely love this movie!

4) Evil Dead 2 (1987) Sam Raimi
The first horror movie that I could truly say that I loved. I saw it as a kid and it has been one of my favorites ever since. The first VHS movies I ever bought with my own money was a two pack that contained this and Army of Darkness. This movie was funny and awesome, it is scary and genuinely helps the case proving that Bruce Campbell's character of Ash is the greatest Zombie/Demon killer of all filmdom.

3) Braindead (1992) Peter Jackson
One of my favorite Zombie gorefest movies ever. Like most of Peter Jackson's early work it finds a way to balance completely over the top gore with extremely funny content as well. Even the gore itself can be so over the top that it is funny. A great film from the guy that brought you "Lord of the Rings".

2) Shaun of the Dead (2004) Edgar Wright
Look out everybody. Here comes Edgar Wright, I cannot believe that this film was Wright's first foray into big time movie making. This film is by far one of my favorite movies ever! The perfect balance of comedy, gore, and horror make it so amazing. This is just movie making at its best and I look forward to Wright's future contributions to filmdom because he is in my opinion one of the directors who represents the bright future of horror movies.

1) Dawn of the Dead Unrated, Uncut Version. (1978) George Romero
My favorite zombie movie ever, the team of Stephen and Peter as zombie killers was epic. Plus when it goes from a Man vs. Zombie to a Man vs. Zombie vs. Biker movie at the end, that is when it gets real good. The gore of master Tom Savini is downright amazing in this film. This film uses all of the major elements that make horror movie good. It is simply put: one of the best horror movies ever and my favorite zombie movie.

Mmm, I consider Evil Dead 2 and The Beyond being movies with demons, not zombies. Therefore I'm not including them.

1) Dawn of the Dead - best...zombie...movie...ever
2) Planet Terror - best film I ever saw in theaters. Rodriguez is my favourite director of this time!
3) Wild Zero - best and most hilarious Asian zombie flick
4) Night of the Living Dead - what SlowIrishBud said
5) Braindead - same
6) Day of the Dead - this one is still better than Diary
7) [REC] - eat this, makers of handycam shit movies: this is how you should have done it!
8) The Dead Next Door - great start, a bit dull in hte middle, but with a grand final: all in all good fun
9) Shaun of the Dead - best moment is when the pigeon gets eaten in the beginning
10) The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue - I just had to put in a video nasty

@ Slayer: you mean Land of the Dead and Asia Argento?... and I also think of Evil Dead and Beyond as Demon/Possession

I'm working on my list...

1.) Dawn of the dead: best zombie movie. Great atmosphere and actors.

2.) Braindead: the best zombie comedy.

3.) Zombi 2: Fulci's great zombie horror. Nice atmosphere and a lot of zombies.

4.) Planet Terror: the best zombie action movie. Ridiculous ideas, great cast and funny too.

5.) [REC]: this combined BWP style with zombie movies. It has a lot of shocking moments. Brilliant.

6.) The Video Dead: quite an underdog but I liked it a lot. It's a total B-movie but very enjoyable.

7.) Fido: very funny zombie comedy.

8.) The Supernaturals: I saw this as a kid and I somehow feel it is a special movie. It combines zombies with a kind of magic.

9.) Night Life: great fun flick with nice young actors.

10.) The Zombie Dead: because of Peter Bark.

Fair Enough... I agree with the Evil Dead statement and for the first half of Beyond, definitely some demon possession action but the last act in the hospital is pure zombie goodness but Karst is right that part of the movie doesn't seem to fit the haunted house/demon possession themes that the rest of the film exuded, but I still love it and would probably find a technicality to worm it onto my list.

You might have a shot with her, she's married to the shit director of Mortal Kombat, RE, and all those other terrible shitty films he did. Maybe she's only ever seen Event Horizon or something?

Ehrrrm, excuse me, but that's true for 90% of the Zombie movies. Except those that are sequels.

I also think Re-Animator and Pet Sematary are very good movies, but I don't consider them zombiemovies, that's why I didn't include them (like ED2 and The Beyond). Nice to see Dellamorte Dellamore, I was thinking about putting it in, but it ended up being nr 11...

Surprised about the rimejks, Truba...
