its rediculous, alien is a horror film in space, not a space film with horror. Sure it is a sci-fi film, but more so a horror film.

I reckon it's the sequels that did that :(

oh and the predators are cool, they aren't particularly decent, but they are good films. First one is way better.

Starship Troopers is a critical piece of war propaganda, very good at that. Wasn't the best sci-fi film though, I'll have to rewatch robocop but I seem to recall robo being better than starship troopers

I tell you wat rocks though, The Thing! Now that was cool, one of the last truely great special effects films too before george inserted his dick into a computer and produced the crap we call CGI  (a tool that is rarely used correctly)

I actually like so much that it is hard for me to pick a couple, but like I said earlier, I like trek, but I cannot believe I forgot Stargate, damn I love the film and the series.

@Ohgod, I had a feeling I had teh wrong episode LOL, seems I had the wrong fuckin season LOL Been a few years tho since I watched, guess I am scared of bursting my mini nostalgia bubble.

Oh and BTW, The Thing is cool too. Not that keen on Aliens, I only really liked the second one, altho I seem to like long story arcs in series, but films I much prefer action.

ahh, sci-fi or horror, its rather hard to seperate the two. who's to judge? who makes the final call on what defines a sci-fi film, and what exactly makes it a horror film? errr, i elect me. if nobody dies, its a sci-fi film. else it's horror.*

the cube films i liked, the first the best. i see a cube 0 is being made.
nobody mentioned 'contamination'. for an italian sci-fi film, it is pretty good. 'Planet of the Vampires' is perhaps the best itallian sci-fi movie ive seen. If you havent seen it you should, it has many scenes used later for 'inspiration' in alien, and from bava, the guy who did 'bay of blood' and a buncha other good giallo-supernatural movies.

i think some matrix sequals are out. i'm not sure as i;m not a fan of the matrix. reloaded, revolutions, revisited, something like that.

starship troopers wasnt too bad. i liked the fact that the bugs pretty much minded thier own business until earth invaded 'colonized' thier planet. i guess it may be true that the surest sign of inteligent life in space is that they stay the hell away from earth. i think any alien of the slightest common sense would look at earth's history on meeting other cultures and maybe go trick or treat somewhere else.

that star trek nemesis was a let down, i think they just want to finanly have as many sequals as friday the 13th.
i did like 'ice pirates'. man, i must have seen that one at least....2 times. scared the hell out of me.

if you want a trip down 1980's nostalgia, watch 'nightflyers'. the music, the big hair, clothes, everyboidy wearing eyemakeup mascara(sp?) it may be the most 80's dated scifi movie i have ever seen. if 80's fashion goes back in style just shoot me in the head.

*yes, my election hopefully will have no fatalities, as long as i get all the votes we can prevent any bloodshed, or my election to commandant of genre-naming will be 'horror'.

Yeah. Agree on this 100%. Definetely more horror than sci-fi.
And also Predators are more action movies than sci-fi, me thinks.

How could I forget The Thing !? Though it isn't a pure sci-fi movie either. But a must mention when talking about 'sci-fi' that I like; Alien, Predator, The Thing.

So I see a vague pattern(read :most re-occuring) of love for SF containing Gore and action being fav type of sf then ?
Hmm...dissapointingly predictable...
I'm not that I'm judging or something ; for the record i do not dispute the brilliance of the thing or predator to name but two ; I love 'em too
It's just not what I directly would classify as SF ....

I mean just because it stars something from outer space it's SF ?
Then critters , day of the triffids , deadly spawn and even dork and mindy would be SF !!!

Having said this I will owe you the definition SF movie ; I guess it has to contain several elements or meet a certain ( be it few) amount of criteria...

@ d0c - well they won't need to be fysically here to know what you just did on your toilet ; concievable within a century or two would be a fotonic telescope ,based on quantum-entanglement (LOOK IT UP you cavepeople  ) ; they would home in on fotons/other particles in your toilet and could then tell what you ate yesterday

and why does everybody hate 2010 ? :|

Time Machine (1960)
War of the Worlds (1953)
Blade Runner - Much better than the book
Clockwork Orange - Great adaption, awesome reading too
Mad Max 2
Attack of the Bimbos from Outer Space (Kidding)
Back to the future 1 - Was kinda funny
Thumbwars is much better than Star Wars!!!!!
Both of 'The Blob'
Donnie Darko
Flash Gordon (No, not Flesh)
Bad Taste
Are the Body Snatching films Sci-fi?
Killer Klowns - From Outer Space
Original 'Planet of the Apes' but only the first one, and perhaps the 2nd.
Metropolis (1927)
Quatermass And The Pit (1967) was ok I guess
Repo Man (1984)
Robocop 1 & 2
Westworld & Futureworld
Starship Troopers offcource.
Stuff, The (1985)
Are Turtles sci-fi?
THEY LIVE!!!!
The Thing of couse
The Tripods Series -DAMN WHY DIDN'T THEY MAKE SEASON 3!!?!?!?! ARGH!
V - Original was best...
Galaxy Quest was kinda funny
Wallace & Gromit

And I also quite enjoy the ultra low budget, post apocalyptic ones like 'Hell Comes to Frogtown' or 'Deathrace 2000' even.

Kinda liked Hardware too, but I wish it had focused more on the society and not only been inside that one single appartment.

Yep, JohnDoe, the Tripods were great! Saw this series as a child and many years later, as a grownup (hohoho) i downloaded it and was impressed once again.

Talkin about series i remember "The Prisoner" of course.
Would be SF for me too. And i loved it! Kinda mysterious and funny.

SF is not just defined by spaceships and aliens and stuff.
I think it starts as soon as we?re dealing with future visions.

You guys don't take bait even when it's rammed into your face do you ?

I was secretly kinda hoping this thread would go into " there's no horror equal the size of what is the future " territory....

Maybe I should start a seperate thread on that subject ? :)

Last attempt.....

BTW if you're waiting for my list of favs, I really pretty much dig all of it......but I fail to see how I could fairly compare Ghost in the shell with something like aliens, predator or the thing :!:
