Hello members of the esteemed Dead-Donkey forum.

For the last few weeks I have been a lurker & secret appreciator of your site. Because I have never been one to actively participate in internet forums, I have never contributed to your colorful discussions concerning the world of horror.

However, when I noticed that y'all take an interest in horror-themed games ("Guess The Horror Movie," "Do you know which horror movie this is?," &c.), I decided to share with y'all a little project I've been working on for the past few days.

I'm currently working in Germany, and some Germans take pleasure in reading a serial pulp novella by the name of John Sinclair: Ghost Hunter. The other day, as I was thumbing through some past issues in a comics shop, I began to notice that many of the covers looked strangely familiar. As this feeling of familiarity quickly increased, it suddenly struck me that a certain portion of the covers had been ripped from famous horror movie posters. See examples below.

I've been scanning through some internet cover archives to see if I could find any other "matches." It has proven to be quite fun, and although I've only been able to match about 10, I'm sure that there are many more matches to be found.

I hereby invite y'all to do the same. There's quite a thrill that comes with discovering the source of a ripped-off cover. It's comparable to catching a plagiarizer or recognizing a sample in a hip-hop song. It's also a great way to make use of a brain filled with otherwise dormant knowledge of horror imagery.

So here's how you "play": browse through this archive of John Sinclair covers
http://www.coverbrowser.com/covers/john-sinclair/
and see if you recognize any cover rip-offs. If you find any, post them here. (Note: The later issues seem to have more rip-offs.) I also invite any jokesters to make worthwhile humorous juxtapositions, such as the ones I've presented here:

Oooo This sounds like fun!!

First one I noticed.

This is Pumpkinhead.

and this I KNOW I have seen before on a VHS and thought it was Watchers, but it wasn't (at least I don't think it is) EDIT: Found it. It's from The Unnamable.

Slightly off topic but I found an amazing site with a collection of old VHS covers. It brought a tear to my eye to see all the misleading horror covers I grew up with as a early teen in the 80's.

I guess I should have said: This looks like house 2. =)

I wasn't thinking of a poster, but the scene where they go into the walls and find the ancient tribe/temple thingy...

I totally thought this was a some kind of elaborate April fools joke... While i have heard of this book series I really didn't think such blatant poster rip offs were real.. lol... little did I know...

http://www.coverbrowser.com/covers/john-sinclair

Wish these books were translated the shear number is amazing.. they can't be that bad. Some of teh covers rule... and I really like the "devil" sort of guy that is recurring in the covers :)

Seriously these covers are just awesome :) . . . Where are the English prints!!

The vampire one is definitely the Nosferatu poster pose, but the guy on the cover is Jonathan Frid as Barnabas Collins.

It's also impressive that almost all of them them were written by the same dude -- a guy named Helmut Rellergerd. He had to churn out a book every 1-2 weeks.

They've also made a bunch of recordings of the stories in the style of radio-plays, and those are really fun.
