Zombie Holocaust isn't a nasty.

In fact this question is much like "What is your favourite nasty"?

Here goes:

Convicted nasties:

Cannibal Apocalypse
Cannibal Holocaust (although I find the animal killings unwatchable)
Fight For Your Life
Night of the Bloody Apes
Nightmares in a Damaged Brain

Unconvicted nasties:

The Beyond
Dead & Buried
Don't Go In The House
The Evil Dead
Inferno
The Living Dead At Manchester Morgue
The Toolbox Murders
Visiting Hours

The best one of these is Inferno. Argento is a master.

I need to complete the list download wise, there are a lot of movies in there i have never seen before.
I watched blood feast the other day, didnt stood the test of time, hell this was really bad. hahahhahaa

edit: from what I recall, I thought Evil speak was one hell of a ride when i first watched it.
But that is like 15 years ago, like i said I have loads to watch

was going to type this in as I saw the title... but it was in your list as well

I Spit on Your Grave... was and is a diamond among the coal. This movie is like Dawn of the Dead or something (not quite but close)... just a trail blazer, starting its own sub-genre and even to this day is very watchable... Something many of the films ion that list really arn't unless you are a real plotation freak.. I Spit on your Grave is just class from start to end.

No this is a very different and much more complex question.

i did a rewatch of 'blood moon' last night... the plot was not much to write home about but the gore was still nice and had me a little on the edge. stone cutter blade scene, scissors scene in garden and the impale of the breast scene was a riot... it also had its awkward hilarious scenes... over all it fall somewhere inbetween 'have stood the test of time' and bad... but better than 'the boogey man' that i watched a couple of days ago..

Well, I think that most VN's which end up on your fav list will also have stood the test of time. Inferno, for example.

Well, I learned something with the nasties: In 20 or 30 years what was completely gruesome is now kids stuff. No wonder our youth is getting violenter by the minute.

i watched 'Human Experiments aka Women in Prison' last night..... what a pile of garbage that one was, thats a movie i am never going to watch again. the boobs shot was ok but the gore wasnt gory at all, the plot was a snorefest... this movie have not stood the test of tim at all.

I'd say The Evil Dead has stood the test of time the best. It's still very popular and one of those introductory movies for burgeoning horror/cult fans. Doesn't hurt that it's thoroughly a Raimi flick with classic gross-out/comedy

Possession is IMO the best film on the list. It's arguably Zulawski's masterpiece with phenomenal acting, a chilling and engaging story, and excellent monstrosities. It has stood the test of time as a great film.

The Argento entries will always stand the test of time as part of the canon of classic horror.

Cannibal Holocaust stands up due to its reputation as THE popular cannibal exploitation flick, placing it a bit above the other cannibal entries.

Last House on the Left/I Spit on Your Grave are seminal rape/revenge entries and will live forever. Last House on the Left is boosted by being the first Craven film as well.

The last one I'd mention is Shogun Assassin as the first of the Lone Wolf and Cub series. It sticks out from the Video Nasties list in general and will stand the test of time as a video nasty and beyond.

As a general rule, the movies which stood the hard test of time better, are the ones that used violence / gore / shock to actually convey something else. For example, masterpieces like Inferno, The Beyond or Cannibal Holocaust are still extremely valid movies even after 30+ years.
Easy and cheap shocks, on the other hand, get old very fast :P

Nice list, I heavily disagree on Blood Feast, though. It is totally not scary anymore. I know, because I showed it to 16-year olds once and they all thought it was total crap.

Post subject:  Re: What 'Video Nasty' have stood the test of time best?...

but despite the movie not beiing scary anymore, doesn't mean that it's bad. Or has not stand the test of time

Or at least, that's what I think.

Itl all depends on taste,
16 year old's can be like a guidline of what the youth of today will like or dislike in a movie, but it doesn't mean a movie is bad just because it doesn't meet up to the expectations of a new generation "horror" fanatics

......................... mmmm im sounding old
