I've just seen it and I really like it. I love the tie-ins to the original.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead is excellent here, and she was in Death Proof?

Any opinions?

Honestly? (Avanze, please remember this is entirely my thoughts on the film, NOT aimed at you. NOTHING personal intendid at all!)

I had read repeated articles during its production that they were going to stay close to the original and use actual, real-world effects, use developed, rounded characters and slowly build the tension.

Maybe something went wrong in the edit, 'cos after a promising first 45minutes, it turned into a derivative, badly scripted CGI shitfest for children.

The nod towards the original was a tacked on insult to one of the greatest horror films ever made.

Fuck this film and every cash-fellating fucker who greenlit it.

lol, or summarised by the one word in your signature? I'm going to watch it but my expectations are low. I saw in fangoria nothing but CGI which was worrying.

It was shite and an insult to the original.

As expected

How does one insult a movie?

This is my review:
The Thing - how this is a prequel to Carpenter's The Thing is a mystery to me. For me it was more like Evil Dead and Evil Dead II: the same story told in different ways. Again there are Norwegians, again they find a frozen block with an alien in it, again some are infected, etc. The similarities are a bit too much, imo. Also, the monster is cgi, which just can't compete with the effects in the Carpenter version. If this would have been a standalone film, I would have liked it more, but since it is SO MUCH like The Thing from 1982, I just can't see it as standalone (I mean, even the title art is the same). So, as a prequel it fails for me, but I was surprised to see a film made by a Dutchman which turned out to be pretty good. I don't recommend this to fans of the 1982 Thing, but to others I can.

I don't agree with that. For me it was a clear hollywood prequel, it was all about cgi monster chasing people around and felt more like The Relic 2 or Mimic 19 than The Thing. Classic mistakes; tried to explain too much, showed too much, living in the shadow of the original. Wasn't bad, wasn't good, don't think i'll be watching it again.

You prove my point: or didn't you watch The Thing (1982) yet? ;)

The Thing is a remake though not a prequel, I don't see it having any relationship with anything that came before. The prequel has more in common with mimic or relic, albeit its using The Things asthetics. Nor do i see Evil Dead 2 as a remake, it just isn't. The film starts exactly where the last one starts.

In both cases its superficial similarities, and deep differences. That's dangerous, its like not spotting an adam's apple :p

The ED2 thing we discussed already, I misunderstood you there apparently.

About The Thing, I was referring to this

I actually kinda loved it. Not as good as the 82 one. But still very enjoyable.

trust me there is a different in shit aaaand this shit.... this is the worst shit because they got the budget and wasted it totally.. and when they are at it they rally up the fan of the first thing that this new thing is as good as the old... that makes it the worst shit ever.

Nah, totally wasted budget has produced far worse films. Transformers for instance.

Yeah well, that simply isn't true. So just don't believe that fan :)
