When I do a preview of lord.of.illusions.[clive.barker,.1995].(dir.cut).dvdrip.avi
It says to be 1:56:10 but is this then the dir. cut? I have it on VHS and there is also says the playtime is aprox 1:56, but I'm pretty sure that's not the dir. cut. (Atleast it does not says so anywhere on the cover, in the movie or where I bought it)

According to this site http://www.obisreviews.com/reviews2.cfm?info=906294 the dir. cut is supposed to be 2:01 long, but the cut version is supposed to be 1:48. Imdb says that the dir. cut is 2:02. None of this makes much sence to me. I just want to see the whole thing!!!

u sure it's not PAL? different run times due to different frame rates.

Plus IMDB is nearly always wrong.

I haven't measured, that's just what it says on the cover. And the dir. cut is supposed to be about 15 mins. longer than the cut one..

i've asked people this before, but shouldnt PAL versions be slightly longer?
25fps vs 29.97fps or about 5 frames a second slower or about 18000 and hour. are PAL's frames just decimated from the whole, or is the video actually slowed down?
I would guess it was decimated, that would make the videos time the same, but screwing you PAL dorks out of about 18090 frames per 1 1/2 hour movie.

Well at least we get better image quality at the expense of a different run time. I'm sure you'd take that option if you had the chance... oh wait you don't! Most TVs support both modes we get the best of both worlds nowadays, best quality TV plus the option of watching imports.

/me does the PAL dance

I think that in a perfect world they'd have erradicated NTSC for the benefit of current NTSC regions. Would simplify things a lot more.

I think your also forgetting that cinema is different to both NTSC and pal (is it 23fps? I'm pretty sure it is). That means it's longest at the cinema :)

eh,
films go at 23.97fps i think.
A lot of dvd's do it that way too.
better picture quality on PAL? how do you figure?

i know nada about PAL, but i believe more frames per second means a smoother playback. I dont watch much tv, but i doubt it is even noticable.

no, I think NTSC tvs flicker badly too. The picture quality is better on pal in practically every way i believe (i have to say this is only what i've been told by the techno-boffins). I only know this because I used to be big on console gaming and this is common knowledge amongst the technology buffs, you'll have to do a bit of digging, but it was unanimous that PAL has many benefits over NTSC (maybe because it is newer/revised?).

I know NTSC has a problem with colour too, or so my DV bridge manual leads me to believe. I can't give you any technical bumpf though, you'll have to research it, take my word for it, or wait until i have time to look it up.

damn.. don't you just hate it when you ask a question and it ends up in a looooong discussion about something completely different, but in the end noone remembers to actually answer the question.

it was about jesus right?

BBFC shows a few different cuts, different companies with different runtimes (this does not indicate different cuts of the film!), which runs at 106mins (cinema), one that runs 108mins (Vid/DVD), then two by different companies that run at 116mins (DVD/vid) and that's tagged "Director's Cut". (all are uncut by the BBFC)

So it looks like the runtime of the PAL director's cut is 116 (1:56) and normal is 108 (1:48 ). This leads me to believe that your obis site is either wrong or talking about another edition not available in our region. It gets the 'cut' version right, but not the director's cut
