Someone posted this over at fh, and i thought i'd pass it on:

Seriously, there's over 1000 zombies there onscreen, in real time, with no clipping or fogging and it held the framerate. Current gen titles can't do that. Its not all about how pretty it looks (and btw, that's on par with current gen given the high polygon count on the environment, and the texturing) and particle effects when it comes to hardware. Hell remember the PS2 couldn't even do proper AA until later in the first generation.

The premise looked great, but the camera (not the camera the guy was using, the game camera) looks terrible and i'm not sure how samey its going to get. Looks like a streets of rage style beat em up and they get real tired fast.

That said, Capcom is the same company behind Resident Evil 4 and boy does that game rule.

Another reply i gave about gameplay concerns:

well if you put it like that, 99% of the "over-the-shoulder" adventure games on xbox, ps2, and gc aren't any improvment over mario 64. :P

mario64 is a platformer doofus, thats just jumping  As far as platformers go, mario world is the best on the snes, then 64... and no, none of them are any real improvement over that. Which is the whole point... more on gameplay, less fucking around and they wouldn't all clone the same game. Here's a heads up on the platform genre, looks like nintendos going to scoop that one up again. They've been working on the sequel to mario 64 for a decade (there's been no sequel, just a spin off that was pretty much a clone with better graphics :( ) and its slated for next year. Currently called mario 128.

action-adventure are like zelda:wacky: So there's been a variety in terms of gameplay, like Nomad Soul, Vice City/San Andreas, etc... they don't play anything alike because its not all jumping...

This however doesn't look like either genre, this is an action/beatem up style adventure... like the aforementioned streets of rage. And this subgenre gets really repetative really fast, so we better hope they've focused on something new gameplay wise else its going to be really boring.

Looks, erm, "promising". Can't say I will hold my breath tho, games have still not evolved to a point where they interest me for long.

What do we see? 5 different persons?

But it's Capcom and zombies ooh boy. :googley:

Err, yes it is. I'll have to dispute what you say because it makes little difference in cases like this, there isn't much of a workaround of the fact that they are such a high polygon count for each model. The xbox/ps2 can not handle this, period. You can not have that many high polygon models on screen with this current generation of hardware, it is totally incapable of displaying it and keeping the framerate. There are tricks to put more on screen, however given that there are 1000 or so high polygon models all doing there own thing, the GPU of current consoles is completely and utterly (and undeniably) incapable of doing this. It doesn't matter if they all use the same skin, texturing isn't realy that big a deal, but you do realise the sheer numbers involved in this is extremely high? The models are high polygon count by todays standards.

I mean dynasty warriors and the like can not achieve this on screen, at all. There's horendous fogging and framerate problems. This handles it onscreen with no slowdown.

The "oh it looks like a 5 year old pc game/xbox game" etc. is bollocks because neither platform could acheive it and they are just going on about how it looks abstractly.

We'll see what the finished product looks like, but its easy to tell from the video and screenshots, its beyond the current consoles.

Hhhm, a ZOmbie game? Think I will just wait for the real life version, now THAT will be cool.

I watched Shaun of the Dead again last nite, so I am well prepared, exept my swingball has gone missing. On the upside, my neighbour and good friend os a tree surgeon, so chainsaws aplenty there.

chainsaws aren't that good, they normally have soft material protection and are only for close range, and are quite heavy and awkward... if you chop of a arm of a zombie, its not going to care or slow it down.

You better with something you can at least use at arms length

Chainsaws can be a pain, if you run out of fuel. For close quarters I say nothing beats a good axe. You better be in good condition though, if you want to keep swinging...

Yeah, but I like the sound of a chainsaw. Maybe I could use an axe but have an MP3 player belting out a recording of a chainsaw.

Bollocks to stealth, I would want them to find me, I love a good challenge.

speaking of chainsaws, did you hear about the man who accidently decapitated his wife with a chainsaw?

Hey Spud, someone posted that on a SmellyWaste newsgoup a few weeks back. This pisses me off cos if I tried some BS story like that they would never fall for it.

As far as accidents go, this story sounds about as believable as the one about a guy, who accidently stabbed himself 6 times in the kidneys while shaving.

I think the game looks really badass but I agree that current GPUs would likely choke while trying to render so may polygons in real-time - unless there's some kind of 'trick' in the coding of the engine to work around this.

I hope this game turns out well and I'm looking forward to seeing the final product but I won't hold my breath. Still a very ambitious project which, if it fails, may at least serve as a decent blueprint for future zombie massacre games hopefully.
