Supposedly one of the inspiration for John Woo’s The Killer, An Outlaw was directed by Teruo Ishii. The story revolves around a hitman, tricked into killing an innocent man in Hong Kong. Trying to find those responsible, he ends up discovering the underworld of the British colony. Lead actor is Ken Takakura, playing a man of honor as always!

A word about director Teruo Ishii, still best known for his ero-guro works – films mixing violence, blood & eroticism (with the director sometimes showing how these films/genres were grotesque). Well, just like his “Line” series, An Outlaw reveals another face of Ishii: shooting in the middle of the streets, interested in filming the “confidential” (or “shameful”) areas of modern cities… No extreme violence and blood for blood’s sake, just a forgotten reality here?
