Katedra (The Cathedral) (2002)

Image

Plot Outline: An explorer visits what appears to be the ruins of a gothic cathedral. There seem to be some strange statues, though, whose faces follow him as he makes his way to the end; the sun comes out, and he stops at the edge of a cliff..........

A computer graphic movie as never made before. Not a very complicated story, no dialogues, but the visual effect is really stunning. Based on Polish science-fiction short story by Jacek Dukaj, it is a masterpiece of computer-generated film art.

Okay kiddies, here's another little animated treat for you. Yet again it isn't horror, but i think the gothic imagery, eerie atmosphere and menacing use of shadows will appeal to many of you. This incredible piece of work although less than seven minutes long, was three years in the making. The result is simply stunning, with the soundtrack also being worthy of note. The way the sound and visuals build to a finale is awe inspiring. There are several reasonably well sourced copies of this animation on the network, one 53.5MB file (poor visuals), one 62.1MB file (poor sound), and the one i've chosen to post here. It comes in at a hefty 121MB for 6.36 minutes of film, but it is a superb rip. Believe me, if you like this short, and i'm sure you will, you'll want the best rip possible.

Having prepared this post i've just noticed that Polityk posted the 53.5MB file on this forum last November as part of an animation compilation. But i feel that this film really needs it's own thread, as it shouldn't be missed. Also this file is considerably better quality. I hope this meets with the forum rules, and that i'm not treading on your toes Polityk!

Note to John Doe: If you're partial to an animation with an "awsome ending", check this shit out!

Enjoy! :beerchug:

Yeah I spotted that, but it's still a smallish download, and not a full length feature!
At least it's not OGM! Oh wait that's MaxPayne2409 that hates OGM :P

Sorry guys, have i missed something? :? The other rips are not as good. As i said one has poor visuals, the other poor sound. Though i would sacrifice the sound for the visuals if you require another link. Do you need another link? What's the trub with the audio format?

It's just people being picky mate :P

Not the best format to choose in terms of quality and compression!

But from the screen grabs this looks like an excellent rip and people can always re-encode the audio once they complete the file if they want

Sorry, am I confusing ADPCM with PCM?

Hole in the Head was encoded with ADPCM audio, and it's still sitting unwatched on my HD, I never managed to find that codec.

So if they are different codecs, then this rip might be playable. :D

As a musician with years of experience in recording, and a right old fussy bastard when it comes to image quality, i have to say that this is the best rip to get. I have scrutinised all three rips in the headphones, and for me this one is the only way to go. The 62MB file has very loud (to the point of distortion) low bitrate sound, and the 53MB file just dosen't do justice to the visuals, especially the outstanding lighting effects. These are probably this film's most impressive feature, and should not, like the audio, be compromised in my opinion. However, if anybody wants the other links, then just ask.

My pleasure Purple.

I'm sure you will be fine to play this file MCMLXXXVIII. I've got nothing fancy on my system. Just the usual XviD, DivX, AC3 and ffdshow, and it plays back no problems at all. As Paul says, give it a go, and if you need another link let me know!

Cheers :beerchug:
