Made in 1967 by Peter Watkins and starring Paul Jones (lead singer of Manfred Mann) as Steve Shorter; Privilege is about a government manufactured rock-n-roll icon who is fashioned into a tool used to sell every product imaginable. Privilege seems to hold more weight in today?s pop music/corporate/political world than it did when it was first released.
Mixing the Mod culture of the time with political and satirical overtones, Watkins' film dares to insult all who buy into celebrity status and the very idea that an item gains importance if it is endorsed by a popular figure. It should come as no surprise though, coming from Watkins, whose filmography is filled with risk taking anti-political and corporate messages.

Is this something like 'Josy and the Pussycats" then? Just couldn't bare to sit through that, even how interesting the basic idea sounded. Will have a look at this. Hope it is better.
